Agreed. I was just saying that the winner of the Kansas/Mizzou game only has the B12 title game left on their schedule. I'm assuming that even if Kansas loses, they're out. I have trouble seeing a 1-loss KU team staying above the Buckeyes. So, the winner just needs to beat Oklahoma (probably) to make the NC game.

But, trust me, I'll be the biggest Sooner fan in Ohio on December 1st! :wink2:

And as far as the "let's just be happy with the Rose Bowl" stuff goes, it's time for a reality check. We're not talking about Iowa, Wisconsin, or even Michigan. WE ROOT FOR THE BUCKEYES! We root for a team that shoots for the NC GAME EVERY SINGLE YEAR! Starting WR's and RB gone? So what. Heisman trophy QB gone? Big deal. This is what separates the Buckeyes from the rest of the Big 10. This is why Tressel has won 3 straight Big 10 championships. This is why he's headed to his 5th BCS game in 6 years. Sure, we're happy to make the Rose Bowl. It's still the Granddaddy. But, ask any Buckeye player if they'd rather be playing in New Orleans. You think any one of them would say no? Give me a break. The ultimate goal at THE Ohio State University is National Championships.

the National Championship is mythical, always has been, and always will be. there's a reason that the NCAA doesn't recognize them in major football. the goal of Ohio State is to win the Big Ten, beat TSUN, and win whatever bowl game they're in. the MNC is just icing on the cake.

LOL. Then apparently you haven't been following Ohio State football...

The scary part for everyone else is we only have 2 senior starters on offense and defense. This team can only get better, and next year expect a lightsout offense. But as of right now we need to prepare for whatever bowl game we are playing in.

Don't care about the National Championship???

Oh wait, you were serious??? :smash:

So, you didn't really care about the 4th and 14? Or the PI flag? Or the goal-line stand? Sure, I believe you, LV.

Anyways, assuming the Buckeyes make this year's NC game (which is still a significant assumption), I think our most likely opponent is WV. LSU has two tough games and has been living on the edge all season and the Kansas/Mizzou winner has to beat a very good Oklahoma team. WV just has to beat UConn at home and then a crappy Pitt team.

I don't know what you guys have such a difficult time grasping in lv's statement.

In the grand scheme of things, the priorities for him and me (among others) are:

1) Beat scUM.
2) Win the Big Ten Championship.
3) The rest is icing.

Year in and year out, I feel that our primary achievement goals are 1 and 2. If we happen to go to the NC; then great. If not; then we'll go to a Bowl game and hopefully have a great outing. It's just a difference of perspectives, but by no means, does it mean that our opinion is worse than yours.

15 years ago I would have said that was true. With the BCS I would say that it is a little different now.

that may still be your order but I am betting the team looks to the NC as the number one thing. Why wouldn't they? Isn't the goal to win a champonship? Is there anything bigger than the NC? NO

Saying that though I think beating scum and winning the big ten are both major priorities. After all to compete or win the NC you pretty well have to go undefeated or at worst 1 loss. To do that in the Big 10 likely means you accomplished both of your first two.

Here's the issue I have with that statement...

In 1) above, replace "scUM" with "Ohio State".

Now, doesn't that sound like Hart, Henne, and Long after their first two games this year?

Shouldn't we aspire every year to be better than that? After all, before App State, even Hart, Henne, and Long were talking bigger than that.

If we had performed the same in the Big Ten this year, but had lost to Youngstown State and Washington, would we all be considering it a great year?

I'd think of it as a pretty good year...but certainly not anywhere close to a great one.

However, as you say, everyone has their opinion, and while I'm stating mine, certainly there's nothing wrong with yours--beating Michigan and winning the Big Ten are good goals.

That could be the worst coping strategy I have ever heard of. I agree that winning the B10 and beating Michigan make or break our season but saying the Nat. Championship doesn't matter is a cry for help. Kids like that get picked last in gym class and end up living in their mothers basement. Ivbuckeye's girlfriend might be mythical but the National Championship is very real.
