Gilbert Arenas v.s. DeShawn Stevenson

Bob Saccamano

These pretzels are making me thirsty.
Anyhow, today after practice, Gil took 100 one-handed college three-pointers, and DeShawn took 100 two-handed NBA three-pointers. Oh, and they bet $20,000. Brendan Haywood and Antonio Daniels kept score. Caron Butler rebounded. Cal Booth was the voice of justice and fair play. Virtually everyone else on the team sat and watched.

Final Score- Arenas 73/100 Stevenson 68/96

Considering the fact that most of your pure jump shooters only use the off hand to guide, and if you take your time a one handed shot isnt as hard as one might think...This just goes to show you that the college 3 point line is way too close. I would love to see it move back to the international length...

But none the less, you do "use" your off-hand for guidance and balance.

I know that, but a true jump shooter does push at all with the off hand so if you have time to stand there and take your time it is not as hard as the ball is already balanced...

BTW I can't watch the video, due to being at school so I am not sure if he did this or was rushing his shots...

An example would be Scott Pollard of the Cavs, not a great player, but does have a nice jump shot and when he shoots he shoots it one handed...

from the ft line i could at one point walk up and hit in the 190s out of 200. granted id take 500 everyday during the summer, it seems like a lot, but with a rebounder it only took 10 mins or something. we had a full 1200 shot workout that could be done in an hourish with the two of us.

Want a cookie...

I agree that with practice that a ft shot is not a hard shot with practice and I really don't understand how some people struggle so much espeically guys in the pros like LBJ that have all the gym time they want to get better...

yes please.

hand size has a lot to do with it. thats more like the wilts/shaqs etc. lbj i never understood. though if you say 90/100 in practice thats like 15 lower in game situations, i dont care what anyone says you cant imitate game conditoning.

thump, no sorry i cant read...

and the one handed shot changes nothing. these guys shoot hundreds of one handers a day. and wait till they get older and snapping thier wrist becomes painful as a reptitive motion injury...

Well the thing that gets me is some of these guys that are 12 year vets in the league say Eric Snow who still can't make free throws and shoot at a 50% clip...Just disgusting...

Also some guys with big hands i.e. Oden or a guy like Z can shoot well from the free throw line.

I'm sure Arenas was well aware of his ability to make 1 handed shots, unguarded, so it was probably easy money for him.

If you sit there and take your time, and get in a rhythm, i'm sure it wasn't all that hard. Especially for an NBA player, of MVP caliber.
