I think this is a good decision. Davidson has always been one for confrontation, and is one of the few to refuse to admit when he's wrong and made mistakes. Plus his repuation for being 'Balkin' Bob' has become a bit rediculous. I'll admit, most of what he calls is defined by the rule book as a balk, but they're such minute things that no other umpire would ever DARE call because it creates, well, confrontation.

Nothing against soccer but the 1-0 final scores do it in for me. You can easily say the same thing about Duke though if you want......it's just a good thing it wasn't called.

Johan Santana got a no-hitter despite a ball hit by Beltran that hit the line beyond the 3rd base bag last night. It kicked up dust and left a mark but it stayed as a foul ball.

I don't see it on youtube yet.

I wonder how [strike] Andres [/strike] Armando Galarraga feels about that.

It looks like someone recording video pointed at the television. Not a great video, but better than some, I suppose.
You need to go to about the halfway mark to get to the Beltran foul ball. There's no great shot of it, and the whole time I was thinking that I couldn't see a shot that definitively shows that the umpire was wrong. It looks to me like he's wrong, but I typically give the umpires the benefit of the doubt. Of course, go to about 4:30, and if that really is the spot of the ball, then he obviously made the wrong call.

Edit: BN27's post (below) shows it much better than the youtube link I had found.
