Georgia Bulldogs (2021-2022 National Champions)

Justin Fields in a landslide.

He was the most talented for sure.

I think he belongs more in the Buckeyes history books though.

Although that narrative is a bit over the top imo.

Burrow transferred from tOSU because Haskins won the starting role and broke records.
Fields transferred TO tOSU because Jake Fromm was one play from winning the natty the year before and came damn close to making the playoffs again in 2018.
Burrow went on to win a natty, Fields did not.

These things happen in Elite programs with loaded qb rooms.

We replaced Burrow with Haskins and he out performed Burrow. Fields out performed every QB Georgia replaced him with. A little different. I am not responsible for Smart’s mismanagement.

Maybe I'm late to the party about ESPN reporting or not reporting this when the allegations started. But when was it... 2005? There was some story about Ohio State's women's golf team, or diving team, or something... they got "impermissible benefits" when they went to a dentist who didn't take the insurance they got from Ohio State, and the dentist didn't charge them for the check-ups anyway. Am I remembering this story right? That made it onto ESPN's front page of the College Football section. That was funny.

The NCAA also cited an allegation against the football team that a booster who gave $500 to a football player, and another accusation that a dentist provided free and discounted services to women's basketball players.

It might have been the women's basketball team.

Yeah, and today it could be legit in a NIL deal......

That's what I said. Haskins outperformed Burrow. Ohio State made the right choice that season. Burrow went on to do big things in a later season. He needed time to develop. The Georgia situation was similar. Fields was great, would've been great to keep him, but can't blame him for leaving either. That said, Fromm was fresh of a near Natty run in 2017, and led us to the SECCG again in 2018. That season, Fields was a true freshman and was still raw. He went on to outperform Fromm the NEXT SEASON AT Ohio State. He wasn't outperforming Fromm at UGA in 2018. Very similar situations, slightly different details.

Yeah - maybe women's basketball. But from what I remember, they wouldn't have had to pay, anyway - the insurance they got through the school would have had to pay, if they were in network. So the women just got to go to that dentist instead of someone else. And, I know I remember that it was put on the front page of the College Football site for ESPN.

The teams UGA has played are trash though. This tends to be the problem in CFB. We crown a team who really hasn't played anyone, and we base the the talent of the teams they have played on a ranking based off of the previous year. If you look at UGA's schedule so far, the best team they've played is a very pedestrian Arkansas team. UGA's defense has smothered the teams they've played, and the offense has done enough to not screw up the games and beat on tired mediocre offenses. I just don't see UGA as being the world beater that so many claim they are. But I wonder if young but talented QBs like Stround and Young can take them down, that'll be up to the OLs to dictate. And I just don't see UGA as being a come from behind team if one of those offenses gets up on them early. Stetson Bennet doesn't strike me as the ball thrower to lead this team back, and light up the score board if he HAS to. I may be wrong, but UGA hasn't impressed me by beating up on the little kids in the neighborhood all season long. Clemson, UK, Auburn and Arkansas are all overrated teams that OSU would've also tossed aside.

You make good points. Ultimately, Georgia can only play the teams on their schedule, and besides Clemson, they've boatraced and curb-stomped everyone they've played.

Regarding whether or not elite offenses could put up points on them, we'll find out in the near future as crunch time for this season begins.
