He apparently worked out a lot with Ash and there's a decent chance he ends up at safety.
Agreed...definitely a lot of safety talk right now. Interesting timing given that his HS coach said he would probably play there and then you also have Walker out there flirting with random schools like a drunken sailor.

Hill is willing to play DB but OSU worked him out there before FNL and Birm confirmed they don't see him as a fit in their DB system.

So, with Walker the first choice at RB that leaves H. And OSU has McCall firmly committed there. I think OSU likes Hill and is willing to keep him but they don't want him as a DB and they have their first choices at RB and H. If Hill were to move on it wouldn't hurt OSU, especially given how tight the scholarship situation is.

And especially with how deep the HB and DB positions are in 2017

Really hope to keep him, but if not I hope the best for George Hill. I would like to add OL depth or another WR to the class and would keep room open for a NSD surprise.

Yep. Sounds like everyone is being honest and open with each other right now, which is sometimes the best you can hope for. All parties involved can make an informed decision about what is best for themselves and hopefully no one gets left in the lurch.
