Recruiting coverage getting out of hand

By Mark Gokavi

National Signing Day has its place, but this is getting ridiculous.
On television Wednesday night you could see the absurdity of grown men instantly over-analyzing and talking about how certain college football teams either met or didn't meet their "needs."

I'm not saying these guys don't know what they're talking about. They do. But they don't know as much as they pretend. Nobody does.
Let's not talk about the 2008 recruiting class grades, let's look at the 2003 grades (factoring in some red-shirts). There are so many variables and yet some of these "experts" talk in absolutes.
At first glance, one service's 2003 grades look like gold. There at No. 1 is Louisiana State University, which won this past season's mythical national title game over Ohio State.

Stephon morris CB out of Elanor Roosevelt high school in Greenbelt Maryland. I think this is a great prospect who is under the radar. He's 5'9'' and 175lbs but runs a legit 4.4. his backpedal quickness is crazy and he also has great closing speed and a high awareness level. The only knock on him is his size. I don't know if we have any interest in him but we should he's a great prospect in my opinion. As of now he has no offers i would love to see this kid get to camp. I doubt he gets a offer or if the staff is even recruiting him or even knows of him. If he got to camp i think he would turn heads. He could be one of those out of know where offers like zach domicone or chemdi checkwa. He has a great video on rivals check it out. Let me no what you think.:oh::io:

I've seen him... He does look good... But you're right about the size... Doesn't seem to fit the recent mold of CB's that tOSU has been after.

I just watched some film on Stephon Morris from the Rivals Five Star Academy in, I believe, New Jersey. Morris is a stud, plain and simple. He may be small, but no smaller than James Scott. Je'ron Stokes was there and Morris was pretty much the only one able to keep on him in the one-on-ones. There were also some other kids that impressed me, namely WR Devon Smith, but Stephon was the most impressive. Darrell Givens is VERY physical... VERY. I like it.

Here is the film...

Honestly i don't know what your seeing. Yeah sure he got beat off the ball a few times but his quickness and recovery speed is amazing. He was the only db at the camp who could stay with jeron stokes and that includes the much heralded darrel givens. He has great hips and his awareness when the ball is in the air is top notch. I don't know how you don't see it? I would love too see this kid get an offer. I think he needs a thread started especially if we offer. Great player and great video in my opinion enough said.:oh::io:

his recovery speed was nice, but I can see where Oneshot is coming from. He got beat pretty badly twice, and the QB had poor throws. His best coverage was against Billy Morgan who dropped the pass, but it was excellent coverage. He looked athletic as hell though, and it's nearly impossible to make a judgement off of (3) 1 on 1 coverage drill plays.

I'd like to see more tape of Andrew Opoku. He looked huge with great athleticism.

CB- Stephon Morris out of Eleanor Roosevelt high in greenbelt maryland. Under the radar prospect with great hips, recovery speed, explosion out of breaks, and awareness.knock on him is he's 5'8'' and 175 lbs. Only This is my personal favorite to get an offer. Doubt he will get an offer unless he comes to camp. Check out his video on rivals. Someone needs to start a thread on him I don't know how you go about getting this. Any thoughts let me know.

WR/ATH- Devon smith athlete from waldorf high in westlake maryland. He's only listed at 5'6'' and 140 lbs. Don't know how legit that is per rivals. He has great speed and just looks quick. He's also in the same rivals video. He wont geet an offer because of size but still an interesting prospect.:oh::io:

If you are talking about Morris... I am not sure what you are seeing. The kid had 3 clips and no completions.

I'd say he got beat 2 of the three times (1st and 3rd time).. both times cause he was too agressive tryin to jump the route.. the second play shown he's with the guy the whole way..

That being said, he has great recovery speed, and great hips..

Taking the results of the plays out of the equation.. he looked the most fluid of all the corners on that tape, just has to work on not buying that first move.. but his recovery speed jumps out at u

Moved the posts about Stepehen Morris and Devon Smith here...Morris looks solid at a combine but that have very little to do with whether OSU will be interested or not. I don't see him as being a candidate for an offer...there is a reason why no one has extended an offer at this point.
