So, let me get this straight. It is somehow an obligation for this young man to announce to the press that he is not seriously considering Penn State? Gee, I thought it was up to everyone to guess where he was headed based on all the tealeaves. I guess Flounders figures the only honest way to play poker is to turn all your cards face up.If Lions don't fit, Pryor must admit it
Star quarterback should cross Penn State off list now unless he's serious about accepting scholarship offer ...
BOB FLOUNDERS: 255-8181 or [email protected]
I read that when I was down in the Harrisburg area this weekend and laughed my butt off. You should see the comments in that paper from PSU fans who are absolutely clueless about anything and everything recruiting related. So, let me get this straight. This guy lives up to his surname, that's for sure.
Not really, goes with the Pitt/PSU subtopic that we've been on above...t_BuckeyeScott;1071719; said:who is that? does he concern OSU?
Looking back on Big Ten recruiting
January 25, 2008
Tom Dienhart
Time to analyze Big Ten recruiting from 2003-07.
I went back and looked at the Big Ten recruiting rankings from the last five years from Rivals.com. I averaged each school's recruiting class ranking and came up with the following rankings.
Big Ten
1. Michigan 1.4
2. Ohio State 3.0
3. Illinois 5.0
4. Penn State 5.0
5. Iowa 5.2
6. Wisconsin 6.2
7. Purdue 6.2
8. Michigan State 6.4
9. Minnesota 8.2
10. Northwestern 9.6
11. Indiana 10.2

UNDERACHIEVERS
Michigan. So much talent, so little to show for it. Big Ten titles: 2. BCS bowl wins: zero. National championships: 0. Oh, and the 2005 Wolverines finished unranked.
Illinois. The ratings are skewed by Ron Zook's recent recruiting successes. Still, there apparently was enough talent on board when he arrived for this team to be more competitive than it was (two Big Ten wins from 2003-06).
Penn State. The Nits have a Big Ten title, but they also have had two losing seasons in the last five. If talent isn't the problem, then what is? Hmmm.

BIGGEST BUST
Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State. This guy was rated the No. 1 player in the nation in 2005 coming out of Eleanor Roosevelt High in Greenbelt, Md. No doubt, Williams has been good. But there is absolutely no doubt he also has not lived up to the billing.
BIGGEST HIT Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State. The Garfield High (Akron, Ohio) product was the No. 3 player in the Class of 2006. So far, so good, as Wells has ascended to stardom and is poised for a Heisman run in 2008.
