General Recruiting Discussion and Tangents (Merged)

LOL... I guess i got caught in the moment and didn't realize we had that many DB recruits. However you must admit that 6 DB'S in the same class is alot and somewhat uncommon. And technically Green, Mcdougald, and Brown are athletes. Mcdougald and Brown might be a stretch but i personally see Green playing offense.:oh::io:
They are being recruited as DB's and the focus on DB recruiting will increase throughout the nation as spread offenses become more plentiful..

rivals (free)
top recruits by position over last 5 years

Pryor #1 dual threat QB
Beanie #2 RB (behind bryce brown)
Mike Adams #3 OT (#1 Andre Smith, #2 DJ Fluker)
Rob Rose #5 DE

For clarity, I believe they are comparing the "#1" player at each given position from the last 5 years. They aren't necessarily saying, for example, that they would rank Rob Rose as the 5th best DE in the past 5 years, only that, of those 5 #1 DE's, they would place him behind the other 4.

Interesting story here...

College Football Recruiting On the Trail 2010 - ESPN

Dexter Moody won't suit up for the Bulldogs
Class of 2009 Under Armour All-American outside linebacker Dexter Moody had his scholarship offer pulled by the University of Georgia, ESPN affiliate Web site TotalUGA.com reports.

He said of the situation, "I had a little bit of trouble happen on Tuesday. I got into an argument with my chemistry teacher and he told me to leave the class and go calm down somewhere. I did that, but one of my assistant coaches brought it up to the principal and told the principal told me I was intimidating the other students. So he suspended me."

Moody added that he questioned signing with Georgia in February, "I told (teammate and fellow UGA signee) Washaun (Ealey) that I was having second thoughts and that I didn't want to sign with Georgia, But he talked me into it and so I did it anyway."

Georgia assistant coach John Fabris gave Moody the option of attending Georgia Military College and then returning to Athens at a later date, but the ECI product wasn't interested. "I told him I'm not going there because I'm not going to go to Georgia no matter what."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defender also stated that Florida and Alabama are now his favorite schools.

If getting into an argument with your chemistry teacher and intimidating the other students is wrong....

Not sure what having a scholly "pulled" means to him NCAA wise. Is it still sit out a year time for him before he can play at another Division I school, even if he never enrolls at UGA? As to Meyer's interest, I don't know anything about the guy other than the article. Is he a kid from a good family with some personal issue right now, or some anger management project that will be a long shot? One of my hs track buddies broke up with his girldfriend and punched out a window of some kid's car in the parking lot. He went to Duke, and the last I knew did fine. But Moody sounds very immature. Color him Tahd is my guess. Now, if he was a DT I'm sure it was just the stress of helping the little crippled kids.

I dunno, more and more we're seeing Meyer welcome back players with discipline problems. He's walking a fine line; he's taken some back into the fold and really helped them turn around. Others...not so much. When you're a forgiving person, you can get burned like that.

That being said, why wouldn't Meyer want a top flight LB who hates UGA with a passion?

I have to tell you, from what I have read about Urban's views on this, the death of CB Avery Atkins hit him hard. Meyer always enforced a strict domestic violence policy. Avery, an NFL quality player, was kicked off the team for allegedly (and really) hitting his gf/baby momma. He was depressed about getting kicked off the team (for what he thought was provocation by her), for his situation, that he had been labeled a bad guy, and for his issues with his gf. He turned to drugs. After going to Bethune-Cookman and playing in 2006, he was found dead in July of 2007 in a garage having committed suicide.

It shook Urban bad. Made him re-think many things about his whole way of dealing with kids. It made him re-evaluate what steps should be taken with different personalities. I don't see Urban being anything near the win at any cost coach. But it is true that he has said that if he could have found a way to get to Atkins and kept him on our team, he might be alive today. Call it hokey if you want, he thinks of these kids as family. They hang at his house. They go to his wife with problems. They play video games with his kids. To be partly responsible (ok - only in UM's mind and heart - the kid made his own path) for a suicide, well, it is said by Billy D. and others that he dwelled on Avery's suicide and it has made him care even less what people think about his choices (actually, the Florida rules remove most discretion from him), than about the future of the kid. Feel free to laugh. I think that the cocky intense mofo really cares about his kids the way Tress does. They are not faking it at all, which is why they have the success that they do.

That being said, why wouldn't Meyer want a top flight LB who hates UGA with a passion?

I think that he would not be able to hang. Urban's deal makes his chemistry look like a spring break. Maybe a project on a short leash, but this kid does not look like examining his own actions is his long suit, and that will get you gone when Urban makes his list of how to get out of the dog house and you ignore him.

Recruiting - The Buckeye Staff

Recruiting is the life's blood of any college football program. Overall this staff is quite good. There is room for improvement individually but overall I think the only real dent in the armor is sometimes they can be late to the party, which is particularly galling with instate kids. I was livid last year when Illinois got a verbal from Melvin Fellows before we showed enough interest to make him hold off.

I want to take a look at the Buckeye staff as recruiters and will include a grade for each coach.

really cool piece written by Duane Long (apparently he started his own website/blog) where he grades the Ohio State staff on their recruiting prowess

Didn't know where else to put this other than the "General " thread, but here are some Rivals$ photos from Michigan's 1-day Camp.

I had heard numerous things about how Hankins showed up looking completely out of shape. Well, he is included, and no, he doesn't look out of shape. He looks like a 3-4 NT.

Also included, and why I didn't puit this in Jonathon's thread only, are photos of other Ohio State Recruits:

DT Johnathon Hankins, OH RB LeVeon Bell, IN ATH Kofi Hughes, MI QB Devin Gardner, '11 OH QB Braxton Miller (he looks AWFUL in Maize and Blue... just awful), '11 OH LB Trey DePriest, OH TE Dan Schneider, OH TE Justin Favors, among others.
