The Biggest Loser In The Urban Meyer Mess Is The University Of Florida

When Urban Meyer announced that he was retiring he said he wanted to "put focus on [his] family and life away from the field." He also "relished the opportunity" to watch his own three kids play sports. Now, 11 months later, he is done focusing and relishing and is ready to return to the sidelines as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
But while the Ohio State job must have been too sexy to turn down, the University of Florida must feel like the jilted ex-wife.

Everything, according to Jen Wiley, a University of Florida graduate and huge Gators fan.

She has Gator gear all over her house but her stuff signed by former coach Urban Meyer is in the closet for a reason.

Last month, Meyer took the head job at Ohio State after leaving Florida a year ago.

"I felt sick actually," Wiley said.

Many Gator fans shared that same feeling when they heard the news, but it?s a little more personal for Wiley and her family.

Her son's name says it all: Spurrier Urban Wiley, a name that honors two of the schools greatest football coaches.

"My husband and I got married in 1996, when Spurrier won the championships," she said, "and then we conceived in 2006 when Urban Meyer won the championship."

I know it's way too early to pass judgement on Muschamp, but the verdict is not promising at this stage.

The first thing a head coach has to do is to hire good assistants. It's like they say about hospitals "The Doctors are in charge, but the Nurses run the place".

Boom said when he was hired that OC was the most important hire he would make.

Hiring Charlie Weis was seen as a bold, if risky, move last year, yet it has proven to be an enormous belly* flop both on the field and with Weis' abrupt departure.

Consider:

Muschamp has stated repeatedly that what he wants out of an offense is the kind of offense his old bosses Nick Saban and Tommy Tuberville used when Muschamp was their coordinators; a pro-style, run-first, pound-it-out offense that milks clock, controls the game, and makes putting together a championship-quality defense that much easier.

Anyone with half a brain and one eye could have seen that's NOT the offense you're going to get from Charlie Weis.

And now we're seeing published reports that Mike Shula is the leading candidate to replace him. I'm not even going to comment on that aside from saying "Please let this happen. LOL"

Muschamp is a very good DC. His transition to HC is looking a little choppy. I wonder how much patience Gator fans will have.

*do you see what I did there?

It could also be described as a "Fucked Up: Position Available" hire.

Florida's Donovan signs 3-year contract extension

Florida coach Billy Donovan has signed a three-year contract extension that should keep him in Gainesville through the 2015-16 season.
Donovan agreed to the extension in October, adding to the six-year deal he signed in 2007 that pays him $3.5 million annually.
.
.
.
Donovan's base salary will be $220,000 from 2014-17, plus nearly $2.7 million coming from an activities agreement that includes television and radio programs/sponsorships, and basketball camps.
His incentives include $50,000 for a Southeastern Conference regular-season title, $37,500 for making the NCAA tournament and $50,000 for a top-10 finish in the AP poll. He also has graduation incentives.

For now, looks like we have cupcake, 8 SEC games in a row, cupcake, FSU - although Dooley tweets that we will end the season with 3 OOC games in a row. Waiting on that, but the 8 conference games looks to be a lock.
