Why you shouldn't believe Muschamp this week

Will_Muschamp_107596795.jpg

Will Muschamp is about to play the kind of game he'd prefer not to talk about. Muschamp will downplay the discussion about facing his former boss, Alabama coach Nick Saban. Muschamp also might echo the sentiment offered Saturday by sophomore Ronald Powell, who said this is "another nameless, faceless opponent." But few, if anyone, will believe that. ... [Alabama] took 16 of its first 21 games against Florida. After Graves' success in 1963, the Gators did not beat 'Bama again for more than two decades. Wins over Alabama were precious to UF head coaches back then and they still are. No matter how many times Muschamp repeats, "every game is important," this one is more important than most.

Gators, freshman Driskel preparing for LSU

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida head coach Will Muschamp said the lower leg injury suffered by Gators starting quarterback John Brantley in Saturday?s loss to Alabama will keep him out of this week?s game at LSU.

The No. 18-ranked Gators (4-1, 2-1 SEC) return to practice Monday afternoon in preparation for Saturday?s game at No. 2-ranked LSU (5-0, 2-0) with true freshman Jeff Driskel set to make his first career start.

?John?s disappointed," Muschamp said during his weekly Monday press conference. ?He?s playing very well. He really threw the ball extremely well against a really good football team. He?s disappointed, we?re hurting for him, but it?s time to pick up the other guy and that?s what our football team will do."

I'm sure all Gator fans will be running out to buy a new 2012 Sonata after seeing Hyundai's "leg humping butt sniffer" commercial.

Gatorubet probably even bought a red and black one.

Florida QB Brantley (ankle) won't be back for Auburn

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida will be without quarterback John Brantley at No. 24 Auburn on Saturday.
Coach Will Muschamp ruled Brantley out Monday, meaning the Gators will be without their starter for a second consecutive week.
Brantley missed last week's 41-11 loss at top-ranked LSU because of a badly sprained right ankle. Freshman Jacoby Brissett started in his place and completed 8 of 14 passes for 94 yards, with a touchdown and two interceptions.
Muschamp says Brissett will practice as the starter this week, but fellow freshman Jeff Driskel could get back in the mix. Driskel, who earned the backup job during fall practice, missed the LSU game because of a sprained ankle. He has completed 44 percent of his passes for 73 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
