To which the response is simply, Ohio State sends more players to the NFL than almost any other school.

Which dodges the issue. Why is the Big 10/ergo Ohio State afraid of cold weather? No November night games while the SEC/Big 12-2+3-4/ Pac Whatever...hell, even Notre Dame, gladly fill the TV void. A CCG in a fucking dome... That's for shit like the NBA, Justin Beiber concerts and tractor pulls.

Why does the Big10/Ohio State comply with the needs of the Sun Belt Chamber of Commerce when their own region could use some boosterism?

Bring a BCS level game to Chicago or Columbus or Ann Arbor. If the NFL can play football in Green Bay, Cleveland, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh -- outdoors -- in January so can all those NFL bound Buckeyes.

To which a Southern kid would think: "Florida and Bama and LSU send a lot of guys to the pros....and I don't have to play or practice in that s***."

I mean, you're right about an NFL pipleline at tOSU Coqui, but kids tend to very self absorbed at that age. And if you think that a blazing fast kid from the Muck really wants to play in temperature in the 30s, you are out of your mind.

I have no idea what Santonio Holmes was thinking. :)

Holmes attended Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Florida. Belle Glade (and the surrounding area) is sometimes referred to as "Muck City" due to the large quantity of muck, in which sugarcane grows, found in the area. About half the sugarcane in the nation is grown in the plains around Belle Glade and nearby Clewiston. Despite being located in the South Florida region of the state, Belle Glade is culturally more associated with the Florida Heartland.
For a time during the early to mid-1980s, the city had the highest rate of AIDS infection per capita (37 cases in a population of roughly 19,000) in the United States.[6] According to the FBI in 2003 the city had the second highest violent crime rate in the country at 298 per 10,000 residents.

I live in FL and love it but there are parts where I understand a kid might want to get far away from. Columbus probably looks like a different world.

Because schools like Indiana and Northwestern won't have the following to fill stadiums for night games in November. I agree with you, that it should be no excuse, but I'm sure that's what its really about. Ohio State, TSUN, Wiscy, those schools would have no problem with November night games.

To which you bring up the better opportunities for education, and all the other recruiting points. I mean if they only used the NFL line, then Miami would grab every single high profile recruit.

I've seen a few people say that they had tickets for the game. My wife and I are planning on driving up from Gainesville that morning, but we were thinking about hitting up the Landing afterwards and maybe grabbing a hotel that night.

I was just wondering what area/hotel some of you are planning on staying at. Living in Gainesville, I've never stayed overnight in Jacksonville before and I'm not sure what areas would be good.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, you can head to Amelia/St. Simons Island in south Georgia for some great Beachfront condo action. Heading South of Jacksonville takes you into the Ponte Vedra beach area and you can stay at the Mariott Sawgrass.

Savannah is about an hour and a half away too.

My e-mail response:

Before you make foolish and uninformed statements like "At least this time, Ohio State got permission from the NCAA to break its rules", you should at least attempt to do some semblance of research...you know, like an real journalist would do. The coaching waiver is common place, and Michigan had one last year when Brady Hoke was hired before Michigan's bowl game, and UCLA, North Carolina, and Illinois also currently have approved waivers for the exact same scenario. One would expect something more than childish, myopic bashing of a football power. Then again, you do work for E$PiN, a company that has had an anti-OSU agenda ever since Jim Delany told your employer to go pound sand and went with the Big Ten Network for future B1G football broadcast rights.

I like the "go fuck yourself" attitude Mili, but it was between the Carr and Rodriguez eras that they had the waiver. Hoke was hired after the bowl.

Well, I'm not a journalist...and I got the UCLA, North Carolina, and Illinois part right.

I'd make this drive and stay in Savannah if I was going to the game and had a couple free nights. If you choose to go that route, shoot me a PM and I'd be happy to give you some recommendations on where to stay and eat (Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room *drool*) and what to do. Savannah is one of the genuinely awesome Southern cities.

We're actually just planning on staying for one night. We were originally just going to drive back to Gainesville (about an hr and a half drive), but we decided we'd rather hang out with some fellow Buckeyes after the game and throw a few back instead.

We're pretty much looking for something semi-close to the Landing if at all possible. Maybe something within a 15 minute drive or so?
