Got it.

Random boring off season question: What is the official criteria for getting the buckeye helmet stickers?
Excellent play, team leadership ..

and beating sCUM.

BTW, did you good folks from Texas see this assessment of the UT scrimmage - comes from a Sooner board.

Why would Texas play the opening kickoff of a scrimmage with the 3rd or 4th scout kickoff coverage team? The 1st team needs enough work as it is.
The theory offered is that Mack Brown likes to make the locals in Austin feel good by giving them a spectactular return for TD at the start of these scrimmage games.

Think Tressel added that one in personally? I remember a while back, Mili, you found a Winner's Manual from the Cooper era and there were some differences from the one you found today as far as getting buckeyes went - very interesting way to compare the two coaches if I remember correctly, and the differences were quite obvious.

can anyone confirm the fact that there starting kicker can boom the ball into the endzone?

that would really hurt our special teams
Yes, he's been doing that. Thats one of the few things we seem to be consistently doing. This is only from what I read though, as I don't live in Austin. We are doing things well, just not consitently. But it is better than the opening of fall camp.

If I had to pick my poison, I'd much rather have our ST that need tweeking than a QB who is having a problem with throwing INT's, bad decisions, etc.

Um, I've been reading a lot of reports that say he can sometimes get it to the endzone, but it only matters if its deep in the endzone preventing a return. Your other kickers definitely haven't been doing it, but the reports have seemed to state that many of the kickoffs don't make it past the five. Maybe that was evaluating everyone, who knows.

BTW, it is blatantly obvious that Mack Brown is a moron when it comes to special teams. He apparently hasn't had full contact many times in previous years (an InsideTexas article said how full contact on kickoffs in practice was a new thing last year)...

And now we learn that they don't have their best coverage guys in there, despite looking like high schoolers against Michigan and apparently also struggling with punt coverage as well in practice.

Bring it on mack. Its clear that you haven't made it a priority to get good punters, kickers, or even bother to spend enough time on coverage units (especially kickoffs). We can't wait to introduce you to Jim Tressel, who says the most important play in football is the punt. We have many kickers who can boom 50 yarders, as well as solid punters, and then have two guys named Ginn and Holmes.

Guess what? There's no way you're gonna have the offensive firepower that Michigan has had for the last 4 years (not that early on without a single WR that has emerged as a goto guy). And all the offense in the world didn't beat us (the one year they played good D and ST they beat us).

Your special teams ineptitude has not changed. And it will win the game for Tressel, just like it always has.

Brown has spent so much time beating up on Baylor and other schools that could never win a Big 12 title, that he has rarely needed special teams. But huge punts by Andy Groom, rock solid FGs by nugent, and good field positions from returns are why we beat Miami as much as our O & D.
