Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

I have been at home this week, medicated from recent outpatient surgery. Some of you may have noticed I have been much more active. I am just now sobering up, as the pain is subsiding. Vicodin is awesome by the way. Anyway, I couldn't care less what reputation I have on here. I already stated 50 pages back why I think Texas wins in a few very long posts. I don't feel like I need to argue anything else, as I have already justified my position and addressed almost every angle. At this point I am just killing time, and coming up with dumb conversation. If you guys really thought I was 100% serious about the TD/INT thing, thats just hilarious. If you think I believe our LB's are just as good as yours, thats funny too. I guess its hard to type a "grin" in a message. Then there was that email about QB matchups some pages back....But all this talk is all in fun IMO.

As for our teams, I have studied both sides pretty closely. There are almost no players on tOSU I would want instead of our players. Maybe 1 or 2. But thats it. Can you legitimately say the same thing about our team? We out-man both sides of the line, our QB runs better and has a better completion % than either of yours. Our TB Selvin Young is finally healthy and averaged somewhere near 10 ypc over his career. Our line doesn't even care who starts, b/c they have been quoted saying "Whoever runs, a hole will be open for them." Both lines have gelled faster in pre-season practice than any I have seen before and any in Mack's tenure. Its just sick how well they are playing together. Our defensive secondary returns 5 of 6 from last year and should shut down yours and anyones passing game. Your QB (Smith) will be starting pretty much the biggest game of his life without having any "game" practice since almost a year ago. We're going to the MNC this year. You guys are just another team we will have to go through. OU is down this year, and has been having lots of problems in practice with INT's and Sacks. The game on the 10th of September will be a great matchup, and a hard fought win, but I still think Texas wins by 3 to 5 points in a low-scoring affair (22-17). It is arrogant for some of you guys to dismiss Miami OH as a given win. Are you forgetting your Marshall game last year as a 16.5 fav (24-21)? What about the year before when Bowling Green scared you (24-17) as an 11 point fav. Do you use the same excuse 2 years in a row of "Oh, we were breaking in new players?" Tressel has a history of underestimating OOC MAC opponents. This look-ahead game could be scary. And everyone has kinks to work out and players to break in the first few games of the season. It just happens this year, both tOSU and Texas has fewer than normal players to break in, which is rare. I know the MAC discussion belongs in the other thread, but I will be saying "I told you so" in a few weeks when you guys squeak by with a 3 point victory over Miami OH. Texas will be coming off a 40 point victory having all eyes pointed at you with a bullseye on your team. Your guys will be sitting in the locker room saying "How did that just happen, we played terribly... well, let's put this behind us and get ready for Texas."

Anyway, some of you are level-headed, and I enjoy reading your posts. Others come off as very arrogant, and that will make a UT win all the more sweet. For all the longhorn doubters, go look back at the years before MBrown came to UT. He's the best thing that's happened to our program since DKR.

So flame me, take my rep away, whatever. I will be there on September 10th, and I can't wait.

Are you serious? NE Patriots would tear any NCAA team apart. Anywhere anytime...

Read me quote again...I said from a 31-point deficit (and I had meant to specify "halftime" deficit...my bad). The 2002 Miami Hurricane team had nearly everyone that started on either side of the ball in the title game drafted into NFL in the three subsequent drafts, and our defense held them to 17 points in regulation. I stand by my statement.

The thing I truly remember about that game is the questionable call at the end.

You meant the pass interference call at the end of the first OT (not the end of the game)? The same PI call that was shown to be 100% correct in replays other than the game-broadcast replays? The same play in which the Miami DB committed not one, but two, infractions against Gamble (holding and then interference)?

No, I think he was talking about the no call on the Gamble Reception where he was held twice and made the catch in bounds, which would have given OSU a 1st Down with less than 2 to play and Miami with only 1 TO, but was merely called incomplete. That's the one, I'm sure of it. Of course, he could also be talking about the non-call block in the back on Parrish's punt return. In either case, he's right, the game should have never gone to OT.

Oh no here we go again...there wasn't a damn thing questionable about the call and if you look at pictures from the game you see holding all over the place that wasn't called...especially against dustin fox...Skip Bayless in da house...

We have at least three pre-season All American candidates and you only want one or two of them?

My apologies on behalf of those Buckeye fans you find to be arrogant. We stand in awe of your level-headedness.

I have already admitted it is very possible we could lose in the "Preview the Score Thread" or whatever it was called. I just don't think it happens. Regardless, I've only seen one or two of you do the same.

Well, in fairness, I've only watched the DVD of the 03 Fiesta 20 times, so this guy who remember's it live is probably right about the call.
I actually hadn't watched the replay since the live game.

Sounds like it was a legit call, from the response. Anyway, I hope you guys have a good weekend.

And just wait until you see our punt returner, he is going to be much better than both of yours, his right leg is so fast and accounts for about 75% of his yards
75% Strong Right Leg, 25% Force on the Left -- Doesn't that mean he would be running round in circles.

Not at all hard -- look at the drop down emoticons tool.

Oh yeah, I see you can utter that phrase above in a number of ways :tongue2:

our o-line and d-line are both underrated, i think they will both surprise people this year.

i dont know if this has been asked already, but how is your 275 lb tailback doing, i think his name is malton? i heard hes tearing it up and getting alot of respect from your defense in practice. could he see legit time in short-yardage or goaline situations?

Our TB Selvin Young is finally healthy and averaged somewhere near 10 ypc over his career.

This one really got me curious, so I had to look it up.

Last season Selvin Young scored 2 TDs in every game he played in.
He averaged 8.5 yards per carry in every game he played in.
He rushed for over 100 yards in every game he played in.

He played in one game. 63-0 route of North Texas.

But he did play in 9 games in 2003, where he also went over 100 yards, barely, for the season (on 34 carries that's close to 10 YPC, but not quite).

He truly stood out against teams like Arkansas (3 rushes for 2 yards), Nebraska (2 for -3) and he dominated the Aggy (1 for -2).

We'll give you Pittman, Wells and two players to be named later for him, sight unseen.
