Hey, speaking of which, unless I missed it - and I probably did - what do you think about containing Texas? Spy or no spy? Etc. You know a hell of a lot more about this schemeing than I do.
Grazie.

I say no spy right away...we are too good in space on the second level. It all depends on the DL's performance. If the LBs are able to flow, VY may have a long day. However, if the rush lanes are undisciplined, the 'Shoe could be very quiet...

A spy will help on the Zone Read and the Rollouts...but I think we will hold those anyway. As I keep saying, it is the broken play that scares me.

Deep routes, unless they underthrown or against talented CBs, would seem easier for an inconsistent QB than passes over the middle. Throwing it too deep or too wide (out of bounds) would result in an incompletion, whereas that same mistake over the middle could be much more harmful. Also, the runback possibilities are much greater during INTs on short passes.

How often did VY underthrow deep balls? It will be much harder to grab imperfect jump balls against Youboty (stopped Edwards 3-4x on jump balls), Everett, & Salley (FS)... than against some of the shorter DBs you probably faced during the year last year.

Here are the pictures of our players checking in for fall camp... some are significantly bigger than last year.

Troy Smith looking even bigger (if thats possible) than his picture from january

These LBers are gonna eat VY alive (Hawk 245 lbs, Carp 260+):

While I'm talking smack, I might as well add in that Mike Kudla, our starting DE, outdid his previous record for bench press. His previous record was 585, but now is up to a more respectable 610. He also has run a 4.5 40 again this year (he ran a 4.56 last year). Here's the source of all of this:

Have I mentioned how hilarious I think it is that Texas fans refer to the entire aTm program as "aggy" rather than "the aggies" or "aggy fans"? A nice little zing at them, and I chuckle every time you use it.

I do not believe these have been posted yet. Tomorrow the defense rankings are coming out, which should be favorable to both squads probably. Someone should let the texas haters (that bash our offense) know that nobody agrees with them. We aren't gonna be USC, but that end of the season wasn't just a fluke. And yes, losing Benson is a big deal. Without a great passing game, it will be a significant transition early on.

All of the focus is one Vince Young's passing abilities as everyone is looking for him to take another step in his development to become more than just a superstar runner. While improving the air attack is nice, don't look for too much of a change from a rushing offense that averaged close to 300 yards per game and finished number two in the nation. There isn't a Cedric Benson, but Selvin Young, Ramonce Taylor and Chris Ogbonnaya will be more than fine running behind one of the nation's best offensive lines. Limas Sweed and Nate Jones are talented young receivers who have to come through in a big way to take the heat off Young and the ground game.
