I dont know how but i managed to forget about nugent, as for the qb, I thought that ya'll had already decided that it would be Troy Smith, will he still be suspended or is the staff still thinking about zwick?
There are some that think that Troy is on Tressel's shit list right now and it will take a lot of very hard work to get back to starting (which it will but not because of that reason). I too think it would take something very drastic for him to earn the starting position back from Zwick by the time we play you guys, but on the other hand it could work in our favor because the Longhorns would have to prepare for both QB's if neither are the clear cut starter.

actually the QB spot will be a bit of a question going into the game...........Smith will be out for the opener, and "supposedly" has to earn his job back..........Tressel for some reason seems to be in love with Zwick, so depending on how things shape up in camp and how Zwick plays against Miami, i don't know that it's a guarantee Smith starts against you guys...........and if he does, he'll obviously be very rusty..............in summary, the QB spot is a definite ? mark for this game

So, we have all discussed the shortcommings of macks ability and the fact that we have to replace ced and dj. As far as i can figure, though, the only weekness that tOSU will have next year(some people on here don't even call this a weekness) is that you have no real proven running game.

Is there any other area of weakness on this buckeyes team, or even just an area that "not quite as good" I know your recieving corp is rediculous and the entire world knows about your defense and tradition especially at linebacker?

Is there any spot on your team that concerns you at all?

Yeah- I'm sure 8 people are responding right now... but.

Part of the lack of running game is the OL (Its the old Chicken or the egg argument vis a vis the OL and RB, but lets assume they both need to do their jobs.)

Now this is an area where we were very young at a couple spots... Now there were older guys playing, but they probably shouldn't have been out there. This Unit did improve quite a bit as the season went on, and you might even see a true freshman out there, but as a whole they pass block pretty well... and as things go along, you'll see some bellyaching about our blocking schemes, and we use Zone Blocking an awful lot. (I don't like it all the time either). Anyway, the studs are there this year, and they have some good veteran leadership, but there are still some questions about who's starting where, I'm sure someone else will give you a run down later.

FROM- mentioned our issue at Boundary corner... I don't see it as a huge deal, since we do play zone a lot and that CB usually is trying to keep the play in front of him most of the time... I think Donte Whitner (S- last year) could handle it quite easily if he had to.. otherwise we've got a top 5 db coming in (Jamario O'Neal) who looks like a freak, and is... but its not the vital position Field Corner is, and I think the only chance you'll see Ginn is if something were to happen to Youbouty... or in certain nickel packages.

You know all about the LB's by now... no doubt.

On the D-Line... they mentioned the lack of an edge rusher... keep the name Vernon Gholston (might have mispelled that) in the back of your head.... And FROM mentioned the loss of Frasier, but I thought Jay Richardson looked better at that spot when he was in... so I'm not real worried....But our tackles are very good.... and they haven't lived up to their hype yet.... so they could be very hard to handle.

Safeties... my advice is to not go over the middle.

Ever.

trust me when i say that making someone prepare for two qb's sounds much sweeter than it works. If you need a refrence look no further than texas 2000,2001

Perhaps not when the two have similar overall styles, but I imagine Zwick vs Smith could present a problem.

I'm reminded of the Iowa State game in 2003 where we held their offense--led by their 1st string, conventional drop-back passer--to something like 50 yards of total offense in the 1st half. Then they subbed their 2nd string (far more highly mobile) QB to start off the 2nd, and he gave our defense fits and led the offense to a couple of quick scores.

Or look no further than the 2001 OU game where we held Nate Hybl scoreless all day, injured him, then gave up an easy TD to a pre-ACL-tear Jason White running the freaking option.

Of course, then again we don't have Carl Reese as our DC anymore.

Smith will have trouble regaining the starting job if in fact Zwick's woes are a thing of the past. He'll never learn to throw a tight spiral (he throws a wobbly duck ball :)), but he could develop into a good pocket QB now that he has time, a potential running game to delay the pass rush, plus we've already talked about teh WRs that have emerged since he was benched. Check out the Zwick clip from the NC State game, the guy has some wheels (he's not a scrambler but I was surprised how fast he was when he was still healthy).

I don't think Smith is necessarily fully in Tressel's doghouse nor is Zwick going to be unreasonably favored like last year. Smith was the leader of the team last year, and his actions before that season led to his suspension. If Smith is still teh guy that rallies the troops and makes our offense a lot more explosive, I think he starts. I'd rather see someone like Smith start out the game with the chance of being rusty (since his scrambles won't be rusty) and then bring in Zwick if necessary... rather than walk Zwick out there and risk seeing the inconsistent, timid passer we saw at times during the early part of last year.

Why does jcdenton have an ou medal? :(

Speaking of medals.....why not have a tOSU medal for all of us on the board who bleed scarlet and gray? Just wondering.
I would guess because we are the norm while the visitors are the ones needing to be pointed out.

As for JCD, I guess I clicked the wrong medal...

...scUM didn't have a bad strategy, but they didn't have enough team quickness to deal with Young...
I don't have a tape to re-watch the Rose Bowl, but here's what sticks in my mind:

1) It was a very even contest.
2) Michigan got to Young, but they didn't tackle him.
3) When push came to shove Young played like the potential All American he was touted to be, Shazor, Braylon Edwards, and their linebackers did not.

Edwards dropped one big pass...
My point exactly! Not to put to fine a point on it, but that was typical of Braylon, make a ton of catches, run up some impressive stats and miss an easy catch at a crucial time... two HUGE Rose Bowl drops in consecutive years and the beauty I see replayed on this site all the time.
