Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

That defensive play in the endzone in the third quarter, I believe, was HUGE. I think they were throwing to Sweed (?) and I forget who was covering him. The pass ended up being out of bounds anyway, but he still made a great 1 on 1 defensive play.

I think you are referring to the near-TD that was broken up by Jenkins. While they were out of bounds, on the replay you could see that Jenkins had ripped the ball from Sweed by the time they hit the ground. Great play, especially had it been inbounds.

I saw Smith under a lot of pressure, more than I can remember (maybe PSU last year?). Pittman had a couple of nice holes (one on third and long when everyone was expecting pass), but Texas pretty much stuffed the run tonight. But hey, let's give Texas some credit - they have a couple of All Big 12 d-linemen (Frank Okam and Tim Crowder), and Brian Robison played a great game.

It still comes down to this. How many times did Troy have to run? How many times was he sacked? (1?)
Even Mack Brown said they expected more running from him. He stayed in the pocket and made his reads.
Look at his completions to Gonzalas. The TD to Gonzalas was a designed roll out. The others were from the pocket. His TD pass to Ginn was from the pocket.
He should've been 20-26 if not for three dropped balls. I'll watch the game again but I'm pretty sure that most of his 26 passes were from the pocket and not under pressure while on the move. Unless it was designed as the TD pass was.

Classy.

Thanks for the congrats! You're lines are amazing, and McCoy and Sweed will find their rhythm. Nice backs, too, obviously.

(mods: we need a universal "congrats" thread! A nice thing to need. . .)

I saw it at a bar... but I think Jenkins may have dragged a foot when he landed. I thought it should have been reviewed

I don't think it comes down to only that at all... our DL was eaten alive... the pass rush rarely existed, and the running attack was strong (thank you greg davis for abandoning it). Texas dominated that trench battle, at least between the 20's.

On the flip side, troy had time on some plays, but had to run on others. I don't think we were dominant on that side of the line... I'd put it as a push.

Mays is an Ass. It seems the whole game came down to Three dropped passes by UT players. He gave no credit to OSU at all.

As I said in an earlier post, Mark May is a total ass clown. It just kills him if he has to say anything the least bit complimentary about the Buckeyes. I've never figured out why he acts the way he does about it. I do recall someone saying that he played at Pitt back when the Buckeyes played them and waxed their asses so if that's the case he must carry a grudge for a long time. The guy is just terrible.

There's no doubt, James had a good game. Congrats to my buckeyes on a well fought victory. I believe the offense and the defense did a good job. Not without mistakes, but one game at a time, and keep improving. The bucks will be a juggernaut by seasons end.

yep, personally i think jt should have challenged the call on the field on that one. imo that was an int. absolutely amazing play on a jump ball by jenkins.

sack number is not a valid mesurement for the amount of pressure put on a qb. the fact is, ts played a whale of a game. when the pressure came ts either A. hit his wr on the number(s) or B. threw it away avoiding the sack.

clarity et al... the multi quote option. rather nifty me thinks, well done!

Very well may be. However, from the replay I remember, there was no possession at the end anyway. It might have been in though. . .

And it wasn't even a normal jump ball! Sweed had it, and Jenkins made a great play a split second after the catch.

I love this guy now (I was uncertain before, despite the reputation), and don't even get me started on Laurinaitis.

Sweet! God I wish I was in Ohio instead of Oregon right now. Not many give a lick about college football around here.
