Interesting. I still think homefield is a much bigger factor than weather, however. If this game was in Columbus, you could have it be 100 degrees and humid at gametime (and I remember it being that way at midnight in Columbus 6 or 7 years ago, early August), and I personally would feel much more confident in a Buckeye victory than having a nice crisp, clean 65 degrees in Austin.

Our stdium isn't the most hostile place to play--our crowd doesn't create the wall of sound you hear in some places. Also, our fans can be taken out of the game with some early scores. UT traditionally does best in big games on hostile turf. Not sure why, just think they relax a little too much in home games. If OSU can score early, it could be a big factor.

What big games? Of the 23 top 5 matchups that UT has been in only 1 was played in Austin and that was over 35 years ago. We don't make much noise because there is no reason to most of the time. The crowd will show up for this game. If you've been to an OU game in the cotton bowl you know the Texas crowd can show up for a big game.

I agree, It will be loud....think of the comeback vs. osu a couple of years ago....that was loud

I would never call us the shoe or death valley but we can be loud, we just pick and choose our spots, i am sure that tosu will be one of them

True, the aggy games have been an expected win lately, not really exciting the crowd much at all. The Texas fans do have to be excited, and that Okie St. game was the loudest I have been to in Austin. I do believe we will show up in force though for this huge matchup, though our stadium isn't exactly builta for sound retainment.

The last time we were loud for them was 2000, a night game a year after the Bonfire game. At that point, they were still considered a good program.

But like HL said, most Texas fans (other than the few dozen people on Hornfans who have an unhealthy obsession) think of their football team no differently than, say, Kansas or Mizzou. People are expecting blowouts, and they're happening, so the crowd isn't too loud.

I actually managed to read this entire thread. Thoughts as follows.<O:p</O:p
1. XRay - he reminds of someone I just can't place it yet.<O:p</O:p
2. XRay - has somehow managed to convince me with even more confidence that tOSU will win. Inexplicable, really. <O:p
3. Track speed talk was annoying.
4. Heat talk was mostly irrelevant. ( I also spent a July –August in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:pSan Antonio</ST1:p</st1:City> at Lackland for AF Basic Training. Hot yes, but I also had a paper route in <st1:City w:st="on">Xenia</st1:City>, <st1:State w:st="on">OH</st1:State> for years that got as hot.) Although the comment about our team playing “poorly” in <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1:pArizona </st1:State>– quite funny. I guess that’s why they invite us back all the time.

As for the stats they were also mostly irrelevant. This isn’t the NFL where everyone plays with similar talent. Bill Belichick mainly evaluates the players he chooses on the games against other elite players. He’s pretty good at the drafting / player analysis thing?<O:p

I have seen most of you Texans fans give tOSU more than its fair shot against you, but I have to hear a lot of Sooners say they are going to beat you all. After all Mack has never beaten OU without Vince. AP looks good but at least their best quarterback is still Bomar. That has to be a plus right. How confident are you all for that game because I can tell you all these freaks here are right down XRay sure that OU will win?<O:p

they wont be expecting a blowout in this game though. I think they will be excited and loud for thi one. Still I don't think it will play a huge affect on the game like it can be in other stadiums. Ohio State will be ready for it like they were in Ann Arbor last year and will hopefully handle it well.

You poor soul. Living around all those dirt burglars. They're confident. Here's their reasoning:

1. AP- I agree, best RB in the country, but not by as much as they think he is.
2. Rhett Bomar is really good, he was going through growing pains last year- I completely disagree, but that statement isn't too unreasonable.
3. Defense might be the best in the Stoops era- again, disagree. It'll be good, but questions in the secondary prevent it from being better than that '01 defense.
4. O-line is not an issue, they are very talented.:smash: When non-Sooners start using evidence to prove the contrary, they either ignore the question, start shouting/arguing incoherently, or plug their ears, close their eyes, and start saying "lalalalalalala".

I'm not arguing that they'll suck, just that their o-line isn't good enough to be ranked #1 and win the MNC. It will cost them at some point. Against us? Maybe, maybe not. I give UT a slightly better than 50% chance to win that game.

Actually Mack has beaten OU without Vince, albeit in 1998 and 1999 (I think), and Stoops was coaching in his first year in 1999. This was all clouded by the five in a row that he lost to Stoops. Right now a lot of people are questioning OU's line, but there seems to be a consensus among media types that OU's defense is going to be very tough.
