Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

hamby missed the block (on the 3rd best DE in the draft), but Smith was facing Hali, and he definitely had time to see him coming if his tunnel vision wasn't downfield. Both failed to execute properly on that play.
Relative to that play to that drive yes, they did not matter.
nevermind the fact that troy's INT gave them a near-automatic TD, the difference in the game.

I see... so, suppose Smith hits a wide open TG some time in the first half (I'm going on Jwins assertion that there were several times this happened) would the missed block been such a big deal to you then?

Suppose Smith doesn't throw the pick... suppose the D is able to hold PSU out of the EZ (as they almost did).... are you still worried about Hamby missing an assignment?

Maybe..

Maybe not.

Hard to say, cause things didn't occur in any other way.

That turn over was devistating, however it occured in the 2nd quarter of the game Penn State started the drive at the 9:20 mark of the 2nd quarter at the OSU 2 and it took them 3 tries to score.

I cant see how you can think that there is no difference between a turn over in the 2nd quarter and one that happens with less than 2 minutes to go in the game.

Smith was NOT facing Hali, hali hit him on his right side. Facing him implys that Hali came up the middle. Smith was going through his reads as he is setting up looking left and got blasted. If Smith HAD seen him he would have thrown the ball. It was only second down and the worst that would have happened is a flag if the ball was not thrown in the area of an eligible reciever.

b/c the smith INT was the difference in the game (since the TD was basically earned by the DB), the Hali FF merely prevented a comeback to compensate for the earlier mistake. With how our defense was shutting down their offense, that fumble may have led to a punt had the game been tied 10-10 at that point.

Smith was not looking at Hali (head turned up field), but he definitely was facing him.
