Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Question: What went wrong during the Penn St game, and what changed following that game? I missed the game.
after Troy's happy feet vs Texas (and even SDSU the week after), it seemed like he was afraid to run against PSU when the receivers were covered & the hole was there... almost as tho he were overcompensating for the coaching he probably received in practice.

He also stared down his first read a lot, resulting in missing other routes (reports of people at the game seeing Ginn breaking open deep a handful of times while Smith was staring down Holmes).

Their DL was disruptive, and OSU lost its tackle during the game (and backup Rehring was already out for the year), leaving Boone to learn by fire... and OSU often protected him with a TE.

Both offenses were shut down, troy threw one pick which was returned to near the goalline, and the rest of the game was a moshpit in that frigid slushfest at night surrounded by 100k fans who had something to cheer about for the first time in years.

Also, I feel the score of the game will be lower. Don't know why, just think the defenses will have the advantage in this game.

Well, if i remember correctly, Ryan Hamby missed the block on the right side during one of OSU's drive. I think it was right around the OSU 40 or something. Anyway, Smith got nailed and lost the ball, which of course, caused the game to be pretty much over.

I dont mean to attack Hamby or anything, but do i need to bring up the dropped ball in the endzone against Texas?

how is that relevant to the psu game? Troy cost us MUCH more than Hamby in both games, and hurt our reputation as well. I think both should be forgiven and embraced as buckeyes by now. IIRC, Hamby had a key block on the Hall option TD vs UM to send us to tempe in 02.

I don't recall that, but Hamby's block on MoC's winning TD in Tempe was pivotal. He took out two on his down block and Maurice squirted right through.

Was that him or Hartsock?
just checked the video clip on BP: it was hamby; hartsock was the decoy on the stacked side of the line. Ryan drove his assignment backwards which also prevented June from running over and stopping hall.

Interesting irony:
#6 gets blown up, and #2 has a front row view of a late game TD run, both in 2002, and 2005.

(no good angle for 02)

Agreed. Heard some scuttlebutt from an employee at my office who recently completed a project with the UT football team. Romance Taylor, recently indicted for pot possession, is not being missed from the team. He was evidently a real troublemaker in the locker room, picking fights all the time.
Maybe, just maybe, but that is such a non substantiated rumor, and I don't think it has much place in any Ramonce, (btw, its R-A-M-O-N-C-E, maybe you are trying to be funny, and then I apologize for the spelling, but if you are going to spout rumors about someone, hopefully you do know how to spell his name) discussion. Secondly, if Ramonce is not coming back, he will be missed. He is only coming into his third year, and is an amazing talent, and probably one of the best backup running back in the nation, if JC would go down with an injury, would you feel better about having Selvin and Melton as your backups, or Ramonce and any other combination?

Sorry to attack your post, I just don't like the rumors flying around about Ramonce, and I don't see how people on the team would talk smack about Ramonce to somebody who "completed a project"? Also, in a bad mood with PJ signing with an agent and JET being suspended for a game.

Also, congrats to Tressel on his much deserved contract extension.

All of you may be too young to rememebr this, but Jackie Smith, playing TE for Dallas in the SB, dropped a sure TD against Pittsburgh in the endzone that might have won the game. At least Hamby got drilled--Smith was uncovered and just got a bad case of nerves. Dallas fans never forgave him, and he had had a great career in St. Louis.

No problem. I can state with a fair amount of certainty that he was a disruptive influence--can't go into details. I do deserve points off for misspelling his name. And I did state that he is a fantastic talent that will be missed on the field.

Too young? That is the very moment I became a Steelers fan.

Hamby didn't get drilled until after the pass hit him square in the chest and popped up...Hamby was hit just as he was trying to catch the ball as it was coming back down.
