Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

"if you think the Ohio is the cleanest river well you haven't seen it lately, lol. i am sure it not as bad as el Rio, but still it isn't the Yellowstone."

I'm going to go ahead and throw the Yellowstone River in as a contender. You'd be hard pressed to find a river that would serve up the Yellowstone.

Are you aware that the world record in the 100 meters is 9.76?

I was aware that the World Record is still 9.77 as pointed out.

I am also aware that the six fastest make the olympic team, and the six fastest in the US last year were.
Gaitlin 9.88
Scott 9.94
Crawford 9.99
Green 10.01
Jelks 10.02
Dix 10.06

It only takes a 10.06 in the Olympic trials final to make the olympic team in the 4 x 100 relay, and maybe not even that. (stats courtesy USATF)

If you watched Jamaal's 10.23 then you know he pulled up the last 5 meters and could have easily matched his 10.18 from earlier this year. With two years experience, and a healthy hammy, I think he could run fast enough to make the Olympic team.

True, with the difference being that Texas fans don't claim Charles is an Olympic level athlete.

If he does a 10.05 then we might, since that may be good enough to make the relay.

Well in a little over a month Charles has developed into an Olympic level sprinter.

I doubt they will run those times effectively with pads on and a defender grabbing and holding them occassionaly.

They will still be pretty darn fast, but if there is a defender on the other side of the ball that is equally fast then i guess it just evens out.

Charles is fast and he plays fast, he really impressed me last year, I have no doubt that unless he or Ginn play defense in the Texas game that he will be the fastest player on the field at any given time...but so will Ginn

Now stop arguing about it :)

His 100m PR before this season was 10.69 (FAT) as a HS Junior. I never expected to see this level of improvement from him, even less so over the course of a single season. His 6.65 60m made me think that he would get to the low 10.3s, but not in the high 10.1s. With his progression it is difficult to predict where he might peak.

what does the 10.69 time have to do with anything? You posted the 10.18 100 m time on april 8th, then proceeded to suggest it was only tOSU fans that would suggest their speedster was at olympic levels. Since that time, Charles has not run a 10.05, which was your stated cutoff for charles making an olympic relay team.

A friend of mine just emailed this to me, thought it might provoke actual football talk.

also, FYI chip brown is the Longhorn beat writer for the dallas morning news

Local station here, had Chip Brown on radio and Chip said he talked with Chizik a bit over the past few days, and went over some film with him.

just a few tidbits of what Gene said:

---should be best defense in years at texas. will finally have the LBs he wants, with the speed he wants

---teams 2nd year under him. he put in a lot of stuff during Spring

---raved about the LBs. said its the best group hes ever coached.

---he has a man crush on Mi. Griffin.

---said scheme wise, he of course modeled after Kiffin and philosphy wise he talked a lot with jimmy johnson, said thats where he began to use speed over size, in his LBs.

---this is the part i really liked. said last year, Texas had Vince and he made up for a lot of the teams shortcomings in every area cause he could do anything at any moment. said this year, the Defense needs to be this teams Vince Young.

---also, Chip Brown pointed out, that this guy hasnt lost a game since November 11, 2003 vs. Georgia.

True, but the April time was wind added and seeing that he has improved beyond that leads me to believe that he is capable of going sub 10.10, eventually. We will see what he does at the Regional meet this weekend and I'll get back to you then.

Chizik is a bad ass DC, and this year's defense will be quick as lightning. he was basically stating that replacing Aaron Harris with one of the quick youngin's was going to greatly improve the defense, I can't say that I disagree with that. I really liked Aaron Harris as a player and a leader, but our other LBs made him look slow towards the end of the year.

thank you for posting something other than FB players track times. Funny, I was watching some Track coverage on Sunday, and some dude ran the 100m in 10.01, and he had played college football, but alas, I had never heard of him. Just another example of top track speed not translating to much on the field, so lets have the JC for the Olympic team discussion on another thread involving track & field.
