Reply Re: OSU Depth Chart Released I'm not buying the Pittcock eating up two blockers nonsense, at least not in a four man front. In the games I watched he was almost always in the 3 tech over the LG, and was single blocked most of the time. You can bet Studdard won't need any help at LG.

Now tOSU liked to go with a 3 man front on obvious passing downs with Pittcock in the middle. In that case he always got at least a chip block from the center or guard.

The secondary is really bad, and doesn't have much depth. It will be interesting to see how badly UTs 6 WR rotation wears them out.

Reply Re: OSU Depth Chart Released On the defensive side of the ball tOSU has five journeyman type players who really have no business being a full time starter for a team of tOSUs caliber. I'm refering to Antonio Smith, Brandon Mitchell, John Kerr, David Patterson, and Jay Richardson. I suspect that all five of these or at least 4 of the 5 will be replaced by the end of the season.

In an early game like ours, they have the potential of being really bad, while they sort things out.

Yes b/c so-called 'journeymen' never step up under tressel... :atom: (Mike Kudla, Josh Huston, Brandon Joe - UM 04, SS Will Allen, etc).

well if xray xpert says it didn't happen, then surely that's the case. I mean an well-respected Ohio coach/poster (GBW) like coachBT (who also watch OSU practices occasionally) surely wouldn't know as much as DVRandy.

Just wanted to take this opportunity to interject a modicum of respect and decorum into this thread.

ESPN Classic is now showing a game between two pretty good teams - TX vs USC. From the 2005 Rose Bowl.

Here is a completely irrelevant but nonetheless welcome picture.

That is all.

Austin, bar the door, before OSU fans arrive
Thursday, August 31, 2006
JOHN KELSO

AUSTIN, Texas — A couple of places that Austin ought to shut down and condemn for treason?
How about those two traitorous joints known as the Erwin Center and Stubb’s?
Frank Erwin, the legendary chairman of the Board of Regents at the University of Texas, would be rolling over in his grave if knew the school had sold out to a pack of carpetbaggers.
The Erwin Center, allegedly a Texas institution, has rented itself out to the Ohio State Alumni Association for $10,000 so that the Ohio State marching band can play there for an afternoon party right before the Sept. 9 game against Texas.
This would have irked Erwin. He would have wanted at least $50,000.
Then there’s Stubb’s, on Red River Street. The Ohio State Varsity Club has helped line up the barbecue and music joint for Buckeyes fans for Friday night and Saturday. So if you want good barbecue that weekend and you’re wearing burnt orange, go elsewhere.
Since we’ve given them Stubb’s and the Erwin Center, why don’t we just throw our hands in the air and toss in the Capitol?
Word is that on the weekend of The Big Game, an infestation of 35,000 to 40,000 people from Ohio will descend on Austin. Why are all these people coming here? Are the bowling alleys in Akron closed for the weekend? What, no bingo games scheduled?
An invasion of 35,000 to 40,000 Yankees from Ohio in Austin on the same weekend: Somebody call Orkin. That’s too many people asking, "What’s an enchilada? "
But here’s the real scary part. Even though Ohio State has been allotted just 4,000 tickets for the game, I’m hearing that as many as 20,000 Buckeyes fans might get into the stadium. You know what this means, don’t you? It means many UT fans are selling their tickets for profit. And that’s just wrong.
OK, so I’ll sell my two game tickets to an Ohio State fan. I’ll sell one for $7,500, and I’ll throw in the second one for $7,450. But you’ve got to memorize the words to the Eyes of Texas and sing it to me in a pretty good voice before you can have them.
Other than that, though, Ohio can go bag Jell-O, for all I care. Some guy, presumably from Ohio, sent me an e-mail that said, "If it doesn’t involve a pig, it isn’t barbecue." Hey, buddy, if it doesn’t involve a pig, it isn’t the Miss Ohio pageant.
So, 35,000 to 40,000 extra Yankees: What we should do is set up checkpoints on all the highways leading into the state and let Ohioans in on the basis of who has the largest credit card limits.
I’d set the quota at about 5,000 visitors. Any Ohio crowd larger than that isn’t worth the noise pollution.

WE all know that a coach who outcoached Charlie, and whose innnovations win games against Scum and others could never adapt blocking schemes.
hahahahahaha

Here's how the season will play out

McCoy is the real deal, but Texas will slip along the way.

Thursday, August 31, 2006
In case you can't wait until the Longhorns' final play or your TiVo is overloaded with "Family Guy," here is a mostly uneducated guess about how their 2006 college football season will unfold (since our prying eyes were allowed to see only two practices in shorts and one scrimmage).
Player interviews, however, have revealed that the entire team is working hard; Texas is not looking past Ohio State or that other team it opens the season with; there is no I or Z in team; the Longhorns are faster than Ricky Bobby; Mack Brown's knee hurts; and Jordan Shipley is still in one piece.

Look for Selvin Young to have a strong year with six touchdowns. Expect a few dropped balls, too.

Otherwise, unless I read that Aug. 7 workout wrong, you can expect the following:
Colt McCoy will start every game at quarterback. He will complete 54 percent of his passes and throw 16 touchdown passes with 14 interceptions. He will be chosen second-team All-Big 12 behind Texas Tech's Graham Harrell and become the third Longhorn named Big 12 Freshman of the Year under Greg Davis. If he doesn't remind of Major Applewhite without the rocking chair, it will be the accurate Drew Brees, sans bum shoulder.
Jevan Snead will play in eight games and look impressive.
John Brantley will seriously weigh whether or not to still come to Texas. (The Florida high school blue-chipper should come anyway. Ryan Perrilloux was scared off by competition, and you can see where it got him.)
Selvin Young will get nicked up but will still have a strong year and finish with 850 yards and six touchdowns. Over/under is two fumbles.
Jamaal Charles will break four touchdown runs longer than 40 yards and run for 1,200 yards.
The fullback, whoever he is, will carry the ball twice.
Derek Lokey, a defensive tackle, will carry the ball 10 times and score more than the regular fullbacks, whoever they are.
Alas, Charles and Young will be so good that neither will figure prominently in the race for the Heisman Trophy, which will go to Notre Dame's Brady Quinn.
For the first time in 30 years, the Outland Trophy will be awarded to a Longhorn — senior Justin Blalock, who will play more guard than tackle to better prepare him for the NFL and improve his draft status.
Limas Sweed will become McCoy's favorite receiver and catch 55 passes for 850 yards and eight touchdowns.
Shipley will have 22 catches and two scores. He'll also score twice on end-arounds.
Linebacker Sergio Kindle will play a lot but will not start.
The Texas defense will be just as good as last season and post one shutout. But it will be on the field more and give up 18 points a game.
The top freshman will be linebacker Jared Norton. Strong safety Robert Joseph will be a close second.
Punt returner Aaron Ross will run back two for touchdowns to break the school's career record of three.
Cornerback Tarell Brown will pick up where he left off in the Rose Bowl and play so well that folks will forget about Cedric Whatzisname.
Mack Brown will be in so much pain on the sideline that three players will letter by propping him up.
Michael Griffin will replace Michael Huff, win the Thorpe Award and block three kicks. Brian Robison will block two.
Greg Davis will get booed after his first West Coast-East Coast pass.
No one will forget David Thomas, maybe the most reliable receiver in school history, but Jermichael Finley's athleticism will wow crowds. He will catch more balls downfield than Thomas. Put him down for 20 catches and five scores and some of the most acrobatic catches you've ever seen.
Fifteen Longhorns scored offensively in 2005 to set a school record, but that mark will be threatened this fall
The next great offensive lineman will be first-year tackle Tony Hills. The staff expects little to no dropoff this year. Hills, too, will consider coming out early. So will Okam.
Kevin Durant promises to be the next Tim Duncan and stay four years, then comes out early. Oops. Wrong sport.
The Longhorns will storm out of the gates, blister Ohio State in the second game (I know; it's been a mind-hallucinating hot down here), take down Oklahoma and beat Texas A&M for the eighth time in Mack's nine seasons.
But a ball will bounce the wrong way, a tipped pass will wind up in the wrong hands and a freshman quarterback will play like one at least once, probably on the road. The most likely scenario calls for a loss either at Texas Tech or at Nebraska, which means it will come at Kansas State.
Even so, Texas will emerge as the South Division winner, beat Nebraska in the Big 12 title game to finish 12-1 and play Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
Of course, if McCoy throws two interceptions in the first quarter Saturday and is replaced by Snead for the next four years, all bets are off.
