Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Without actually looking it up I thought it had something to do with the overall record of the team, i.e. beating a 9-10 win team is an elite win.

Yeah my only thoughts were that to them an Elite Win does not necessarily mean " a win over an elite team" but maybe a win in elite situation, IE win while an underdog....I freely admit I am fishing here...truth is that it makes no sense

Thats good thinking, but it only furthers that tOSU should have had one against Michigan in '04 as tOSU was 6-4 going into that game and won 37-21.

"This is how many wins a program has from 2003 to 2005 over teams that finished a season with two losses or fewer, or wins on the road or in a bowl game over teams that finished with three losses or fewer. An extra 0.5 is added for an Elite Win on the road, but that doesn't get added for wins over teams with three losses. If a team beats a team that finished with three losses twice, it gets credit for two Elite Wins. For example, in 2004 Auburn beat Tennessee, who finished with three losses, twice last year and gets Elite credit for both wins."

Since Texas won in a bowl they get it, while tOSU won at home they do not. Doesnt seem right to me as tOSU won as a home 'dog by 16 and Texas won in a bowl by 1.

According to CFN, they define their elite wins based on two categories:

1.
teams that finished a season with two losses or fewer

2.
wins on the road or in a bowl game over teams that finished with three losses or fewer

Texas's win against Michigan applies to their 2nd criteria making it "elite", whereas tOSU's win doesn't quite fit the the first criteria (obviously b/c Michigan lost to Texas), therefore not making your win "elite". Weird system for sure...

The losses definitely don't add up by CFN's own criteria.

The 2-loss home/3-loss road/bowl would mean OSU has 4 'elite' losses, not 5: 2003 @Michigan (10-3), 2004 @Iowa (10-3), 2005 Texas (13-0), 2005 @Penn State (11-1).

The other teams OSU has lost to in the last three seasons are 2003 @Wisconsin (7-6), 2004 @Northwestern (6-6), 2004 Wisconsin (9-3), 2004 @Purdue (7-5).

In other words, Ohio State and Texas beat Michigan in consecutive games, but Texas gets credit for an Elite Win and we don't (even though we beat them first). In fact, we stomped the shit out of Michigan whilst Texas had to win on the last play of the game. Makes perfect sense. :roll1:

Without getting into the usual recruiting service banter, I would like to point out the irony that Cowherd's show just had a brief rundown on the Texas QB situation and the reporter said Snead was at least one year away from being able to play. He noted that the flaws in his mechanics were numerous...

Anyway, I'm sure you are right anyway Randy...pass the Kool-Aid please.

What has Cowherd's reporter said about this year's OSU defense?
