Game thread: Southern Cal 50, Fresno State 42 (final)

even with the starters the defense isnt outstanding but they get the job done good enough.
no they don't. they give up 42 points despite forcing 5 turnovers. that is awful.

what they do is they have a few decent defensive series, and then ask their world class offense to win every game. methomps, I am truly impressed by USC. however your pathetic defense will cost you eventually.

im not saying that. what im saying that 80% of their positions on defense(no exaggeration) the starters or a person they rotate in is injured. im sure they are playing hard and still do well. even with the starters the defense isnt outstanding but they get the job done good enough. its not an excuse to why they are doing really poor right now defensively it is a factual reason why. can you imagine our defense if we had 80% of our second stringers in versus a team like michigan state? USC is just really beat up now. im sure they will take this game and run with it. i dont see ucla posing too much a of a threat and then they have time to prepare and heal up for texas.
again I ask, why should the excuse be made? they have a "bad" defense. who cares why....its still "bad".

So it was SC's defense giving up the points, but not SC's defense making the interceptions? It's the Orange Bowl all over again.
SC forced probably 4 of the INTs, no doubt. I can't recall a time a team has ever turned the ball over that many times and still absolutely lit up the scoreboard all night long.

Part 1: SC forces a ton of turnovers
Part 2: when most teams would yield 20-25 pts max with that kind of turnover margin success, SC manages to give up over 40

therefore, your D is very bad.

what is this based on? Have you seen what Texas has done to absolutely every other team offensively? Here is their point total, 60, 25 (us), 51, 51, 45, 42, 42, 52, 47, 62, 66. Yeah, they really have trouble scoring points :roll1:

their numbers are fairly comparable to USC, and they are doing so against tougher defenses. They also have barely been challenged outside of OSU.

Leinart has more yards b/c he's thrown a ton more passes. he has basically the same amount of TDs.

There is not a single defense on USC's schedule that would be considered decent by our standards. ND has a very porous defense, and they held them in check pretty well. It wasn't just b/c the grass was too long, or weis controlled the clock. They simply were not dominant on offense.

I'd like to think if they can struggle against the ND defense which can be absolutely destroyed, there is a pretty decent chance they could do the same against one of the nation's best in Tejas.

I pray nobody brings up OU from 04. That was the most overrated team for two straight years. They gave up tons of yards and points to OkSt last year... but no pollster dared to hold that against them. And as a result, we had a repeat performance by the least worthy team to sneak into a BCS game.

this is prolly the one and only year i will ever say this but the PAC 10 is considerably stronger than the big 12 this year. the big 12 this year is the equivalent of the little sisters of the poor. besides us texas has played NOBODY. their toughest game was ok state which fla atlantic almost beat. ucla beat oklahoma this year already pretty handily. you could put ohio state in the big 12 this year and we would go undefeated and put up those numbers as well and thats even with a conservative type of offense. the big 12 is just that bad this year. is texas bad? hell no they arnt. this is by far their best team in the past years because young is a hell of an athlete and they have some capable WR's and solid RB's even though they are young. i completely agree that OU makes no argument for this year because the USC/texas game will actually be a game but i just dont see texas's defense having any answer for USC's offense. charlie weis did a masterful job of getting ready for the USC/ND game and ND stayed in that game and kept the score down the same way i said earlier......by forcing turnovers. they made key plays that were drive ending for USC or put their offense back on the field and that is exactly what texas is going to have to do. as far as i am concerned texas has played 1 game this year so far and that was against us and fresno state would lay the rest of the big 12 out. you can make the argument that texas tech, colorado, oklahoma, nebraska, etc were ranked but it is just a benefit of beating other crappy teams for image. ive seen them all play and they are sorry teams and even the the majority of texas fans will admit their conference and schedule is cupcake after us. guess we will find out in padadena.

with a majority of the starters not playing...................their defense might not be great but they are winning games still and i dont see how texas is going to change that but thats just my 2 cents.

1) USC punted 4 times. those aren't turnovers, those are stops. They threw two picks, and did not fumble. That's not a lot of turnovers. Sure they definitely helped slow them down, but ND's very average defense slowed down USC. There is no way ND has the athletes that texas does, and Chizik is a brilliant DC. If it was b/c of the bye week that Weis was ready on offense, I can only imagine what over a month will allow Chizik to do on D.

2) The big 12 might not be the greatest conference (actually it's an awful one), but they have some decent defenses. Just b/c UCLA, Oregon, ASU and others all were ranked highly doesn't mean their defenses aren't horrendous.

3) If USC has no idea how to stop pocket passers with good RBs, how in the world are they going to stop the added dimension of VY?

Texas is absolutely going to destroy USC. Their defense is so bad it's hilarious. They are worse than the 04 UM d.

I'll take the bet giving the same amount of points that vegas gives USC.

If people actually believe some of the comments made in this thread, I should have takers at 15. I should have to beat them away with a jeweled shillelagh at 10.
