Game Thread: Miami, Fla 27, Virginia Tech 7 (Final)

So far I'm sure the BCS guys are celebrating

Yep, if USC and the 'Horns keep rolling, all they need is for Bama to lose one of three tough games (LSU, Auburn, and SEC Championship - probably Georgia in Atlanta), and there is no need for a plus one or anything else this year.

After Va Tech loses there is no viable threat to Texas and USC if they win out. Alabama has an inept offense, and cant score as much as USC and Texas can, they do have a good defense, but thats not enough.

That would be nice, but 'Bama has that special something about them this year. Kinda like us in '02. Looks like they may be Auburn '05. But those are 3 really tough games.

well, things may not be so bad if miami continues to lay waste to virginia tech. the pollsters are going to wonder just how strong the hokies' schedule has been. the hokies best victory so far has been the one over boston college, which lost to north carolina today.

as was pointed out, virginia tech is being manhandled at home against a team without their star running back and return specialist. even the starting quarterback was out for a period, and miami moved the ball at will against the supposed vaunted defense of virginia tech.

while virginia tech may not drop below ohio state in the bcs poll, i suspect that it will be very close. furthermore, virginia tech does not have gimmes for the last two games. virginia and north carolina are competent teams. if ohio state and virginia tech win out, i think that the bucks have a much better claim to a higher ranking in the bcs poll.

of course, i'm biased.

I don't think anybody can justify an unbeaten Alabama team over an unbeaten USC or Texas. They can't score to save their lives on offense.

VT has a history of dropping 3 straight. Once they lose once, all bets are off.

So now its an FSU vs Miami rematch for the ACC title.

That leaves our competition for the at large bid down to the SEC runner up and VT (I am assuming ND will get the other spot).

Possible teams
UGA
LSU
Bama
VTech
Miami (if they lose to FSU)

Only things that worry me

1) An undefeated Bama team losing to a 1 loss UGA team in the SEC game. That puts us in direct competition with a 1 loss Bama team and a 2 loss ND team for those two at large spots.

OR Bama losing the regular season game to LSU and being a 1 loss team at the end of the year.

2) A 1 loss VT team staying in the BCS top 6. IIRC the KState rule is that a team has to be selected if they finish BCS top 6 no matter how shitty they travel.

3) Miami loses the ACC game to FSU and has 2 losses but stays ahead of us in the BCS due to VT's vast overratedness.

Still a lot to be worked out but those are the only things I can see potentially screwing us if we run the table.

What a letdown after all the hype and build up to this game. Commercials every ten minutes on ESPN, announcers talking about it during every game for the past month and this is what we get.

Just an absolutely pathetic showing by VaTech. I know miami is a good team but tech isn't even competing right now. The guys on their sideline look like they're gonna cry.
