Game Thread Game Ten: Ohio State 48, Northwestern 7 (final)

Half-time thoughts ...

NWgets the TD on their first drive.

Since when the Ohio State Defense has played them much closer. They look to be running a well disguised coverage. Setting up as if purely zone then closing the windows on those receivers. But for one PI penalty against AY (who payed it back with an interception in beautiful fashion) this scheme has NW stymied. They are getting good presure on BB and holding NW rushing. The chess game from the NW OC vs tOSU DC will be a good one in the second half, though with a 3 full score differential, and a smothering Buckeye Defense I like our chances.

Heacock's adjustments after the first drive may swing him some votes in the DC poll
or his second half adjustments all year. We've faced an absurd amount of good offenses (Texas, Iowa, MSU, Minnesota, NW... and pretty decent offenses from the cupcakes like Miami and SDSU) this year too.

Troy Smith forced a bad pass, but overall I think he is doing alright. Danielson was spot on ripping Troy for not going underneath. A deep pump and dumpoff would have worked great.

Anyone still want to complain that Troy rarely pitches the ball? That fumble is exactly why he keeps it when he knows he can get 4+ yards. Pittman isn't fumble prone, its just a dangerous play when you pitch it.
One other thought - did anyone catch the props Mussberger gave AJ? "Seen him in many games, and he has never seen him have a bad one"
what's more notable is he is calling a good game. Last time I heard him he sounded like a drunk version of Desmond Howard trying to read his cue cards.

I think the M.O is to run it down their throats in the 2nd half. I wouldn't be suprised to see us go over 300 yards on the ground. It's great when your breaking off 5-6 yards per carry. Wear em down, and pound their asses into the ground!! We also have to be careful not to let down the guards, because this NW squad will find their way back into the game if we do. Go Bucks.

Can't wait until we play those bastards from up north!

great call, but with the pitch you have that great chance for a big play. In watching earlier in the year Smith had some big plays if he pitched it.

I agree you can have a big play, but its not really worth the risk if you know Troy is gonna pick up good yardage. Grad or others want to comment? If you know a great runner like Troy can get good yardage, would you teach him to hold onto it until they force him to give it up?
