Game Thread Game Ten: Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 17 (final)

I think you'd have to be pretty fucking stupid to be rooting for a team to win just so we don't have to play a certain team in the NC game. I hope it's LSU.

I rooted for Florida to be in NC game last year because I thought if we played Michigan or USC we'd lose.

Look what happened.

Bring on LSU.

LSU is on television right now. Ask yourself as you are watching if we could really beat them. Glad we aren't in the SEC or nobody would be talking about us. Thank you Big Ten conference for being the 5th best conference in football!

I see an overrated SEC beating each other up. I see Alabama running with a mediocre running game at LSU. I see a team with no defense allowing LSU to score and move the ball at will.

Could we really beat them? Yes.

I am nervous about tomorrow's game and it is completely my fault.

I have to take my youngest son camping, we leave in 10 minutes, and I won't get back until Sunday morning. So I have to hang the OSU flag now, instead of the usual first thing Saturday morning. I have to listen to the game on radio instead of watching it (or being there). All normal routines are off.

Last year, this happened to me for one game (same reason by the way) and that one game was Illinois!!! I almost cost us the Illinois game last year!!

So for you superstitious folks, do a little extra of your good mojo routine tomorrow to make up for my bad mojo.

For the rest of you, enjoy a good ole fashioned Badger ass kicking!! Payback from dancing on Block O in 2004 should be vicious!

You fucker, almost gave me a scare today. :tongue2:

ls{phew} is slooooooooooooooowwww. Just gave up an 80 yrd bomb to a 'Bama wr who couldn't make FIFTH STRING on my Buckeyes. Update: 'Bama just picked off a BADLY thrown pass by ...
uhmmm, well whatever that worthless ls{phew} qb's name is.

Frankly, I don't think either of these teams could win more than 2 or 3 games in the BIG10.

Must be that "BIG10 SPEED!!!" Doncha think?

"The bigger the lie, the more people will beleive it." Adolph Hitler

Hey it works for ESPiN and the SUeC.

PS Besides...MUCH better game between two BIG10 TITANS is on.
Sparty leads scUM 24-21 with 6:47 left. Better than watching 2 "plodding" SUeC teams. IMHO

NEAL C. LAURON | DISPATCH
Chris "Beanie" Wells scores one of his three touchdowns in the second half for the Buckeyes.

Top-ranked Ohio State, in real trouble in the second half for the first time this season, turned to tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells to straighten things out. He did, with three touchdown dashes to power the Buckeyes? come-from-behind, 38-17 victory over No. 19 Wisconsin in front of 105,449 in sun-splashed Ohio Stadium.

OSU improved to 10-0 with two games left in the regular season, while Wisconsin dropped to 7-3, 3-3 in the Big Ten.
It all hinged on the second-half play of Wells. With the score tied at 17 following his first TD run, a 31-yarder at 2:41 of the third, Wells struck again.

After the defense finally got a handle on the Wisconsin offense, forcing a punt, the Buckeyes took over at the Badgers 49-yard line. On second and 15 from the OSU 46, Wells went 11 yards on a draw, and quarterback Todd Boeckman followed with a 7-yard scramble for the first down.

The Bottom Line

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

All hail the pickle! No, not the brined cucumber spear -- rather, that uncomfortable spot between the rock and the hard place. Ohio State was there for a while, yet emerged, sore but its dreams intact. Leaves are awarded on a zero-to-five basis.
Offense (3 leaves)
The Buckeyes weren't the cactus-sharp unit that stuck it to Penn State, but nor were they in constant sputter mode. The first-half highlight consisted of one, opening drive. The second half was better, especially how Beanie went downhill like a runaway boulder. Boecks runs, too?
Defense (3 leaves)
There is a temptation to scold for allowing 17 whole points and scads of big plays (it's a one-leaf penalty for failure to wrap up). Then again, 10 sacks have a way of making the boo-boos all better. Vernon Gholston and James Laurinaitis might eat their veggies at home, but on the field they're carnivores.

What the Buckeyes had to say

Brian Hartline sophomore wide receiver
On trailing 17-10
"Kirk (Barton) gave us a talk. He is a senior and a real leader on this team. He told us this was the time to step up."
On playing Wisconsin
"Teams that have lost a game can sometimes have an advantage. They know that feeling of a loss and they don't want to repeat it. If you're a team that has not lost you can't get comfortable or someone will beat you."
Doug Worthington, sophomore defensive lineman
On the game
"We had prepared hard all week. We knew that pressure was going to be a key today and we did our best to get in and disrupt their offense."
Malcolm Jenkins, junior defensive back
On the game
"It was a big win in a big game. We came into the game undefeated making it the biggest game on our schedule. Since we got the win next week will be even bigger."

Transcript of Jim Tressel's postgame news conference

COACH TRESSEL: Well, I think just like all of you in preseason kind of had this one circled and knew it would be a battle, it was just that, and Wisconsin came and laid it on the line and they have to be proud of their kids. Our guys kept battling and anything that came our way in terms of adversity, our guys handled it and we're awful proud of the way they got after it.
Vernon Gholston was all over the place and James Laurinaitis and that whole defensive crew and offensively when we got behind 17-10 and the defense needed a little time just to get back on their feet, our offense answered with a pretty good-sized drive and notched it up to 17 and then we had a chance to move on from there. I don't know that it was our greatest performance, but it was winning, and we got a chance to fight another round.
