Game Thread Game Six: Ohio State 35, Michigan State 24 (final)

Great win for the defense.

The offense looked adequate at times, but nothing to write home about obviously.

I think the leash on Troy Smith got a whole lot shorter today.

The defense willed this team to a win today.

Obviously, it wasn't pretty. Yes, Lou Holtz, MSU probably outplayed us. Yes, Gary Danielson, MSU finds ways to lose. But right now, I don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan. It was ugly, but we made just enough plays to win. Let's enjoy it for a while.

When you watch the replay of Santonio's late go-ahead TD, look for Dionte Johnson's pass-blocking after they faked the option. He should definitely get a leaf for that play!

Troy's passing stats will look great.

I think he was 10-15 for 249 with 3 TD's. Admittedly with the help of some poor play in the MSU secondary.

It was a good win after a very shaky start.

I don't want to come across too negative so I'm going to be quiet on this game after this post. Gotta say my piece however.

Suffice it to say I didn't see anything from that offense that makes me feel any better.

MSU's lack of mental discipline and shitty tackeling was the difference in the game. Our offense managed to score 28 pts and that5 only 5 points better than what MSU average's giving up. MSU also averages giving up 407 yards per game and we should come in at about that number too. All in all we managed to exploit a below average defense for just about what they average giving up. Whoopty fucking doo.

All in all, better than a loss but nothing points to any type of progress by that offense. Smith still can't come off of the primary reciever, he's still TO prone and its his 4th year in the system...little hope of improvement at this point.

As we have seen in the 2 losses a good defense will confuse him, pressure him and cover/tackle his reciever....and we will lose because that pressure and confusion lead to TO's.

Whatever, the good news is a pretty weak schedule from here untill Ann Arbor, no one that can really make us pay for his shortcomings....but then again I thought the same thing about MSU.

- Wow No Focus
- Wow our D is Great!
- Stanton is awsome
- Smith is a shade below Bellisorry (Dings are coming)
- Our focus was not there
- Kudla has been playing great
- Hawk and Carp are all that. Period
- Pittman is a lot better then we give credit for
- A win is a win is a win

we got great pressure today! I think we got 9 sacks? Thats great to see. Atleast this will be the last time we face a team with such balance until Michigan! I guess you guys were definatly right Michigan State's defense jus sucks. I was alittle upset with how they were hitting the seams and the crossing routes with ease, but it seemed we made great adjustments in the 2nd half to limit their big plays! On another note how great was it to see Ted Ginn run for that TD? Hopefully that gets him back on track and gets some confidence in him! Also what a great kick block by our kick blocking team (even though MSU fucked up). That was like watching Va Tech block kicks!

We've got to get Pittman the ball the kid is just so much better than he was last year!! great game by Pittman and all Three linebackers!

C'mon people, I cannot be the only person who noticed that on our 8th sack of the day, Brent Muffburglar said "THAT is the Buckeye's FIRST sack of the day!!".

He lost whatever respect I ever had for him.

What a complete tool.

Seriously, what a dumbass.

Have I mentioned how breathtakingly stupid, awful and idiotic BM is yet?

Good grief he freakin' sucks.

Oh how foolish I was to think anyone would give TS any credit.

Troy Smith was FINALLY allowed to throw Zwick passing plays (the 5-7 yard quick hitters). Yet when troy does it it's bad defense, and when Zwick does it its great vision. Smith had a lot of great deep balls today, and intermediate passes.

Does he still focus on his primary receiver too long? Yes, and that's a problem, but not benchworthy. But when his receivers helped him out, we moved down the field. When they didn't (teddy slipping on 20 yd pass on 1st down, pittman not continuing upfield for a big gain and forcing smith to throw it away), we stalled.

He coughed it up, and that is a problem, I agree. But he played a pretty good game out there. When Teddy, Santonio and Pittman put the ball on teh ground 4 times and leave you with less than 50 plays, you aren't given many chances and he made the most of them.

And at least 15-20 people in my section wanted Troy, Ginn and Holmes all to sit on the bench, yet were cheering loyally again when they made big plays.

Is teddy still afraid of contact when he sheds two blockers? The kid is a dancer, but he's far from a pansy.

Today's game saw some predictability, but after the first few drives the playcalling improved. The times we stalled were due to poor execution largely. The offensive woes today were not on tressel.

Hell yeah Daddybigbucks! I noticed that too!! I remember scream'n at the TV what the hell are you talking bout we've been all over the son bitch. Seriously you can't make such a dumb statement when its been obvious we've gotten to Stanton alot!

I like the crew we had today, but they seemed to think Michigan State blew the game? I thought both teams did enough to blow it, and you can argue that OSU definatly let MSU stay close with fumbling the ball away FOUR times. Yeah we caught a break on the blocked kick but thats just about it.
