Look. I said that I like Pittman and Mo Wells. They just don't have what I prefer in a RB. It's a question of physics. Force=Mass*Acceleration!

Spadukins you are right that Wells will probably end up having the better overall career but people do underestimate Pittman and I don't recall Oregon ever saying Pittman would have a better career.

that's a separate subject, I'd imagine he took issue with this line:
However, when picking who the best RB on the field September 2nd, Chris Wells is my clear choice.
Why do you think that is?

probably b/c they look for guys with great measurables and highlights... rather than a very productive RB who can block & catch as well as he can run.

Do you think Reggie Bush is going to hold up in the NFL? He's not very big either, and he never carried the ball that much at USC. If NIU had a Lendale White, we wouldn't have had to give Wolfe the ball 25-30 times a game. That takes a toll on anybody.

Chris Wells can't block. I guess that's your point here. How about this?

We start Chris Wells against NIU. Give him the rock 35 times. Let him rush for 250 yds and 3 or 4 touchdowns. On the other plays where we might need him to block a little bit, we just have Troy Smith show off his exquisite scrambling abilities. Which is what Troy Smith probably wants to do most of the time anyway! I wonder if the Buckeyes could win such a game?

Tell me. Is Chris Wells allowed to practice and improve his blocking between now and then. Is the blocker that Chris Wells is right now going to be the same blocker that Chris Wells is in game 1 or game 8 or in the Bowl Game.

I have a feeling all of your worries about his blocking are gonna just melt away after he gets a couple games under his belt.

Is Chris Wells an intelligent and coachable kid? Is Jim Tressel a good coach capable of molding young talent into the type of player he wants?

I'm not worried about Chris Wells' blocking abilities. I'll even roll the dice right here and now and say that given his size compared to Pittman, not only will he eventually become the better runner but also the better blocker. Time will tell.

I will be very surprised if Chris Wells gets more carries in a game than Pittman any time soon...Pittman came on so strong the second half of the year, it's going to be very difficult to name someone else the "workhorse"...All this being said, I want "the pair and a spare" at RB...It's a long tough season and we need all of them...

I agree Wells has a higher ceiling, and will learn to block. But I think it's a slap in Pittman's face to say Wells is clearly the best RB for game 1... not for 'careers', not 'after he gets a couple games under his belt'... especially when he's shown he has a lot of work to do in pass pro, after practicing all spring.

Wells has tremendous potential, but he has to become a complete RB before he will be a star under Tressel. Similar to Teddy who has greater potential than Holmes, but was not the better WR.

If this would happen I can pretty much guarantee you that nobody would ever make a peep about his blocking abilities ever again. Everyone would just sit around watching Buckeye games yelling "Give the ball to Chris, give the ball to Chris. We got a Heisman to win!".

We all can remember the last Big Back we had that as a true freshman back in 2002 caught all our imaginations on fire. Back then we didn't have an established guy like Pittman so Chris Wells isn't likely to get the same chances as early as that other Big Back did but that doesn't mean that Chris Wells couldn't get the job done just as well as that other Big Back did.

Probably even better when you subtract all the stingers and quarters missed!
