Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

A running team is just what the Doctor or JT ordered to break in new back seven(discounting Jenkins). I'd be more worried about a TxTech passing attack. Defending the pass is more about assignments where as defending the run is about tackling.tOSU has loads of physical talent so I don't see a problem handling the run.

This is the PERFECT game to get the defense ready. NIU rolled up 411 yards on Michigan last season. They love to run the ball and Wolfe is an EXCEPTIONAL running back.

IMO the game plan for the Texas game will be to stone the run, put the game in the hands of a rookie quarterback and then blitz, blitz blitz, rinse and repeat. This game gives the buckeye defense an extra week to prepare on defending the running game. You have to believe that the Texas staff will want to try and rely more on the running game if they can. If the Defense can come through on denying the run well, you have to really like our chances.

A little off subject, but if Texas is smart, they will allow their two all-star qbs (yes, they don't have game-time yet), to pass within their capabilities, which, according to some Texas fans, is pretty respectable. The Horns may just run and plunk with an occasional bomb to keep things honest?

I think this is a perfect game to open the season.

NIU has a potent running attack, and a ineffective passing game. Now obviously, they dont have athletes and players as good as Texas, but both teams will rely on the run early in the season.

i second scarlet on that one, this game will be perfect for our defense. i am less concerned with the defense after seeing the spring game and practice, so i am not worried about their performance against NIU. After seeing the spring game, i look for Beanie and Homan to get good experience going into the Texas game and maybe Coleman as well. I see both and probably all three getting time against NIU at their regular positions and not just special teams in the game.
