Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

A running team is just what the Doctor or JT ordered to break in new back seven(discounting Jenkins). I'd be more worried about a TxTech passing attack. Defending the pass is more about assignments where as defending the run is about tackling.tOSU has loads of physical talent so I don't see a problem handling the run.

I think we blank them...I honestly do. I think our offense isn't as crisp as u'd expect, and we only put up maybe 34 points...but we don't allow a point. This is subject to change since it is early...but right now I like this score:

Ohio State 34
N. Illinois 0

Why do you think we goose egg em? Seems like with a young defense, a blank is almost impossible.

keep in mind last year's defense rarely shut people down on the first drive. Tons of teams had early success, we merely adjusted and then shut teams down. No way we shutout NIU.

I say we shove the ball down their throats with Pittman (who should be just fine) and the Wells boys...then air it out a few times deep. NOT EVEN close in my opinion. They are not a bad team, but I think this year is the year when our O really clicks.

The woodshed picture was fantastic Jax and I have to agree with you. Once we key on Wolfe and slow them down, this one will get ugly early in the 2nd.

I say: tOSU 48 - NIU 10

2004 vs. Cincinnati; 27-6 (W)

2003 - 1; NCST (3 OT)
2004 - 0
2005 - 4; Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern (consecutive weeks)

I like the way Heacock gets players ready for games. True, some teams jumped on us on the their first drives (San Diego State, Northwestern, Notre Dame) before we put the clamps down, buy NIU doesn't have near the offense NW and ND have, and the SDSU TD was a fluke. I think we'll do better on defense against NIU than many think.
