Game Thread Game One: #1 Ohio State 35, Northern Illinois 12 (9/2/06)

Wow you really have no respect for him do you?

Actually, no I don't. Here are the rankings in rushing defense of the teams that Wolfe ran against last year:

Michigan: 41st
Northwestern: 113th
Tennessee Tech: 71st (in I-AA no less)
Akron: 71st
Miami (Oh): 45th
Eastern Michigan: 103rd
Toledo: 27th
Western Michigan: 56th

He didn't face a solid rush defense all year. The best was Toledo at 27th, and keep in mind that Toledo's rushing defense stats came mainly against fellow MAC teams.

I really don't know why I am arguing with people that have seen Wolfe play like twice in his career.

You will see how good he is September 2nd, I'm done.

I don't know why I'm debating with someone who is so enthralled with a RB that hasn't faced a good defense in his career. You'll see just what he is once we shut his ass down.

If Wolfe ends up with 170 total yards against Ohio State I will take it a heartbeat. If Wolfe runs for 52 against you guys and we score 42, I will take it in a heartbeat.

NIU has a really good offense and you have a really young (yes I know talented) defense. Wolfe is going to run for alot, and we are going to score. 35-24 because we can't stop Ginn and Smith.

Check the Texas thread for a breakdown of how 'young' OSU's D is this year. Yes, OSU lost 9 regular starters, but you're kidding yourslef if you think their lining up with 9 guys who don't have expierence.

From BuckeyeRob's post over in that thread:

Buckeyerob said:
DE Lawrence Wilson, Sophmore played as the season progressed and had a fine Fiesta bowl coming out party. Played in 10 games in 2005

DT Quinn Pitcock Senior. Nuf said... almost certain all conference possible all american
DT Dave Patterson Senior. Played DE out of position moved back inside. Almost certain all conference.

DE Jay Richardsonn 5th year senior played in all 12 games last season

OLB James Laurinaitis Sophmore Started 2 games. Michigan and ND played in all 12 games.

MLB John Kerr 5th year senior played in all 12 games.

OLB Marcus Freeman Sophmore was injured last season.... physical freak always around the ball.

DB Malcomb Jenkins Sophmore 6'1 202 (4.43 per rivals) Started 6 games played in all 12

Safty Jamario O'Neil 6'1 190 (4.4 per rivals)Played in 11 games

Safty Nick Patterson 6'2 200 (4.5 per rivals) Played in all 12 games.

Corner Kurt Coleman 5' 11 195 (4.4 per rivals) Freshman who enrolled early and has shined. This spot is still up in the air between 3 guys. Andrew Amos 6 1 180 (4.45 per rivals) Shut down Mario Manningham in the Ohio All Star HS game. R Freshman.

Starting experince is just that. Richardson, Jenkins and Kerr ALL have started. If you dont like that, thats your problem but it doesnt change the truth of that.

Look at our passing stats for that game, we threw for 485 yards.

See any connection? Think they were keying on the run?

Then look at our 2nd game where Wolfe runs for 270 some yards. If you hold Wolfe to 2.5 yards a carry, I will run around the Horseshoe naked.

I see your point, so I did some digging.

Rushing Defense:

Michigan #41
Northwestern #113
Tennessee Tech N/A
Akron #71 [twice]
Miami [OH] #45
Eastern Michigan #103
Kent State #106
Central Michigan #20
Toledo #27
Western Michigan #56

Ohio State was #1 in rushing defense last year. Now I dont expect us to repeat in that category I'll say that, without a doubt, Ohio State is a different kind of monster when it comes to running the ball. If you expect him to crack over 100 yards I wont say that unrealistic, I'll just say that he'll get his chance to run on our second team sometime in the second half.

*I see Milliani beat me to the rushing defensive rankings.

In the last four years, OSU's rush D has given up 2.35, 3.52, 1.95 & 2.6 yards per carry. The DL returns 6 of 8 from its two-deep.

Wolfe will be decent, but will not set the world on fire. If he has early success, OSU will force NIU to beat them through the air, which I do not believe they can when attempting to stay with Smith/Ginn/Gonzo's production.

Of course he didn't play good defense's, we are NIU. That ain't his fault. Do you think you would have shut down Michael Turner also?

Let's have some fun with Pittman and Wolfe common opponents.

Miami:
Pittman- 14 carries, 100 yards, 0 touchdowns
Wolfe- 31 carries, 197 yards, 2 tds

Northwestern:
Pittman- 18 carries, 132 yards, 1 td
Wolfe- 34 carries, 245 yards, 3 rds

Michigan:
Pittman- 23 carries, 85 yards, 1 td
Wolfe- 17 carries, 148 yards, 1 td

Totals:
Pittman- 55 carries, 317 yards, 2 tds
Wolfe- 82 carries, 590 yards, 6 tds

YPC:
Pittman- 5.7
Wolfe: 7.1

Mind that Wolfe has a bullseye on his back every game and is our #1, meanwhile Pittman was your #4 option. In common opponetns, Wolfe was better in every single category then Pittman was.

Deja Vu of the Northwestern fans last year....and the Michigan State....and the Iowa...and the Miami (OH)

How many times do you need to be told...respect is earned. If Wolfe does what you say, everyone here will give him his credit just like we did for VY last year.

However, if he gets shut down, I fully expect to see you on these boards again to eat your crow...

This isn't last year, the faster you realize that the better.

So you basically admit that Wolfe is your offense....and Pitt is merely a piece of our scheme? That alone tosses the ridiculous common opponent argument out the window.

Also, your Michigan stats include a 76 yd run correct? That breakaway certainly makes for a much more impressive-looking day...kinda like Sutton running for 93 yds against tOSU last year, but one of those was a 34 yard run. Otherwise he was bottled up.

Didnt we already go through this? Every year, tOSU is tOSU...and every year, Northern Illinois is Northern Illinois.

Shine my shoes now little man...I already owned your ass once and split it off to give you a clean start. If you really want to get owned again, I don't mind bitch slapping you around some more.

Wolfe is a home run hitter, he has a long run like that almost every single game. Since when do long runs not count?

Take out Wolfe's 75 yard run and his YPC was 4.5. Fantastic, no but hardly bottled up. 4.5 is still better then Pittman's 3.7 YPC against Michigan. Wolfe isn't "our offense" but he is our go to guy.

Uhhh, bottled up referred to Sutton. Your boy had a good day against scUM...given. Comparing tOSU's defense and scUM's defense...no comparison talent-wise or scheme wise.
