I think tonight’s funeral scene justifies why they spent the first half of the season setting up the back story and time jumping —rather than just starting with the older actors as I’ve seen some suggest, which would have been easier to follow for many.

Without that history, I don’t think you get the full weight of every fucked up relationship playing out during that scene. I enjoyed it and think they’ve done a solid job setting up the momentum towards and anticipation/tension for the things coming.

Agreed 100%, they have set everything up really well. I expected more uproar over the incestual scenes but it seems like viewers understand that back in the age of time, that sort of thing happened. Not a whole lot of options yet and keeps the bloodlines "pure". Makes sense in that context really. Really good season so far and its nice to have a great show to watch on Sunday night again (used to be TWD until it went to crap).

I'm waffling on which side I want...
I WAS a Rhaenyra fan.. but the older version is a hag and not sure who she is; so she moved down a notch
Her kids are pussies... so don't want them as lead dogs in this hunt
If she has a kid with Daemon could be big game changer...
Interesting how everyone got so much older except Daemon
Alicent is sticking up for her boys which is cool but one's OK and the other is a shithead; so she moved up a half notch (plus she's the hottie of the set now)
Aegon seems to have his head together... thus my early favorite
Aemon is a prick.. but dammit, he's got one bad-ass dragon so he's a player

so Aegon is my lead but I'm expecting someone coming out of the portal to take over
BUT all bets are off if the King dies in the next couple episodes... cuz everyone's gonna die
and the portal will be really key

This will be unpopular, but I want Daemon at the moment even though it is unlikely for a number of reasons...dude is a badass. Agreed with everything else above though.

One broad question I had though and hopefully someone can fill me in is the end of the episode before the time jump. Of course I saw Ser Criston beat the gay lover to death (not being homophobic, just don't remember his name if they ever said what it was) during the dance. But I don't know what preceded that, they don't really show much...I feel stupid here, but were we supposed to imply what happened or was that something to be left to the imagination? Also, the king keels over near the end of the episode and I took that to mean his impending death, yet he shows up after the time jump. Thought all that would be explained in the first time jump episode, and maybe it was and I just missed it. Lots to keep track of on this show, or I am just getting old 8D

Fucking Joffrey Baratheon ruins everything.

The lover was Joffrey Lonmouth. He basically said to Criston Cole “you protect my secret (lover of Laenor) and I’ll protect yours (lover of Rhaenyra)” which obviously did not go well for him.

Viserys collapsing was just another strong indication of his declining health, but obviously not the final bell toll. He basically can’t stand and can barely get around walking now, which the fall indicated visually before the time jump. The crown falling off his head in the fall was also highly symbolic.

Thanks for explaining that. I caught the you keep my secret and I will keep yours dialogue, but it seemed like something else happened before Criston jumped on Joffrey. I thought there was the sound of a blade coming out with other people before Criston started beating Joffrey, maybe I am imagining things.

On Viserys, the head scratcher to me is that if he was in that bad of health before the time jump, how is he still alive after what appears to have been a big time jump? I can tell he is in very bad health after the time jump and I guess we don't know how many years have passed, but it just felt like he would have not made it through when he fell down, or at least not for that long. Guess they have a good medical staff.

They couldn't kill off Viserys too soon... cuz all the A-kids of the Queen/King and the Harwin Strong/Princess kids are gonna get whacked when he kicks
The whole chessboard is gonna be tossed

Sir Cristen was already a powder keg when Joffrey 'Loudmouth' approached him.. He's still pissed that Rhaenyra only wanted him as a cabana boy toy
and Joffrey lit the fuse by saying 'I know you're banging the Princess and now you know I'm banging the Prince.. so we're buds, cool?"

I think there's another 8ish year jump for the next episode.
Viserys will look like death warmed over
Rhaenyra will look more like a hag
Queen Alicent will still look great
Daemon won't age a day

But wonder how they'll treat the kids
That will be most interesting
You can see new actors for all the kids in the “coming next week” preview. I believe it will be the last time jump and the final set of people to get comfortable with as shit starts to go down.
