Penn State starting right offensive tackle John Wilson was injured in practice Wednesday, and a source said Thursday that he is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Wilson was examined by team medical staff yesterday, but the official results of that examination were not released by the school.
Wilson, a fifth-year senior, had started all five games this season for the 5-0 Lions. The 6-foot-6, 317-pound Wilson started two games last season at left tackle for injured Levi Brown, impressing the coaches with his play. He then got the final four starts at right tackle in 2004. Andrew Richardson, a 6-foot-5, 306-pound redshirt senior from North Hills, is listed as Wilson's backup.
Richardson had started the first six games of the 2004 season at right tackle. He's a former tight end who made the transition to tackle as a junior in 2003.
The loss of Wilson comes in the wake of what Joe Paterno had called the offensive line's best performance in several seasons in a 44-14 win over Minnesota last week. Penn State rushed for 364 yards in that game.
