2027 GA DL David "DJ" Jacobs is a Buckeye!!!

OK, admit to my curiosity. Various things indicated that this is a 'surprise' visit. Being who I am, does anyone have any solid info as to how come? Certainly like the 'just because' answer, but keep wondering if he's just 'making sure'. PS, know it will come out well, but wonder how Pantoni and staff react to having a 'unplanned for' guest arrive...

Latest update on DJ Jacobs sounds good for the Ohio State Buckeyes

Coming away from the official visit, Jacobs’ chances of staying in Ohio State’s class sound great. His father recently spoke with Rivals, and one quote stood out.

“He ready to be a Buckeye,” Jacobs’ father said via Rivals. “You dealing with these kids, there are so much emotion, you can’t say lock about nobody, so much can happen, but he’s happy about his decision.

“He liked the coaches, he loves the players. He liked the city. He definitely still loves Ohio State.”

It sounds a lot like Jacobs’ recent visit to Columbus reaffirmed how he feels about the city and the Ohio State football program. Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson is putting together a strong DL class with Jacobs and four-star EDGE Wyatt Smith as the two pass rushers. Ohio State is in a great spot to eventually land five-star DL Marcus Fakatou out of California as well.

And from what I read on another site, DJ is doing some recruiting for the Buckeyes. Talking to other recruits, trying to get them to come to Columbus-town. Cannot hurt. Also, this visit has helped me back away from the roof's edge, as seems to indicate that he's 'solid' to tOSU. Never say never, but a good indication. Here's hopin'.....
Definitely a good sign. If he can get Fakatou to join him, that's two absolute monsters on the DL for LJ Sr (with more to come).

Cannot help but be amused at all those who are 'calling' for LJsr's retirement. Kinda like Rip Van Winkle? Quiet, quiet, quiet, then pow. Looks like this is going to be an Athalon's 'best DL' status in next year's annual. On the other hand, tOSU always seems to be in front with a bevy of 5*'s, and then shakes down to several, but certainly not all. However, am enamored that Day is being selective with whom he selects. Sorta like tOSU has graduated into the Alabama category? Or maybe just me and my S&G colored glasses. Nevertheless, great news on the recruiting front. OK, it's fish on, now merely gotta land them.

Which 5-star recruit in the 2027 class will have the biggest impact for Ohio State?

Of the 5-star recruits they have committed at the moment, which one will have the largest impact early?
After a slow start, the Ohio State football team has really started to heat up on the recruiting trail. They ended the month of June by adding a five-star defensive lineman in Marcus Fakatou and started the month of July by bringing in Jett Harrison for the 2028 class.

The 2027 class is still the focus for the Buckeyes' coaching staff. As of right now, they have three five-star recruits committed to them. They have Fakatou, DJ Jacobs, and Jamier Brown. Jacobs plays on the edge while Brown is a wide receiver. All three seem solidly locked into this class.

There is a chance that the Ohio State Buckeyes add more five-star recruits by the time Signing Day rolls around. Of course, that is not the case right now. So, which currently committed five-star recruit will have the biggest impact right away for the Buckeyes?

DJ Jacobs will have the biggest impact right away for Ohio State

It seems likely that Jacobs will have the biggest impact right away. Jacobs plays one of the most important positions on the field, so that gives him the edge. With him playing defensive end and being an elite pass-rusher, he will likely have the best chance to see meaningful snaps early.

Jacobs is also a physical freak. He can use both speed and power to make the quarterback uncomfortable. He is also fast enough to be able to stop running backs trying to make their way around the edge, as well. There's a reason that Jacobs is rated so highly.

The Buckeyes will likely play all three freshmen next year. They are all talented enough to earn snaps in meaningful games right away, which is always the goal. Fakatou and Jacobs are the ones who play a more important position where there is less depth, though.

Admitting I have no earthly insight to the immediate impact question, gotta chuckle somewhat. tOSU has a very stacked roster, with nary a weakness anywhere. So would expect the coaches make a conscious decision to play one or more of these 5* studs, over a more developed back-up. To get them experience under fire, certainly. To see if what they exhibit in practice translates to the field, also certainly. And the more they produce, the more minutes they get. How many 4-5* WRs have fled to greener pastures because they believe they deserve more minutes?

I, for one, am usually on the side of regardless of star ranking in HS, all HS players have an uphill battle to see the field as true frosh. Going against a bulk of players who may never sniff a D3 field, let alone D1 is BIG! Even if a player went to the best HS program in a very competitive region and state, they will undoubtedly play a number of games facing competition that will never even make it to college in their near future. These kids will face backups that may be better than any player they've ever faced, due to that backup already being in a college S&C program, and knowing collegiate moves, and just being stronger and faster due to age. JJ was the only true frosh I've seen at OSU since Clarett that came in and looked different from day 1. And even Clarett has stated that his practices at OSU were some of the hardest of his life. So it will be interesting to see DJ go up against Carter Lowe or even Deontae Armstrong

And to answer your question about OSU WRs: the entire 2022 WR class, Jayden Ballard, Quincy Porter, Julian Fleming, Bodpegn Miller and Damarion Witten
