G/F Evan "The Villain" Turner (2010 Naismith Winner)

Anyone else think Turner looked more comfortable with the ball last night than he ever has. He looked more like a pg than I have seen from him and he looked completely fearless that he might lose the ball. His best pass of the night wasnt an assist, he did a no look pass while driving to Simmons in the corner. I might just be imagining things or it might be because it was the Indiana team, but he normally turns his back on defenders when they pressure him with the ball, last night he was dribbling right in front of them. His two turnovers I believe were on a carry and then I believe they credited him for a turnover off the rebound when he was falling out of bounds and tossed the ball over the half court line. He didnt score as much as usual, and i thought he looked somewhat timid on the rebounds. He also looked like he lost a little bit of spring. However, I was really impressed with his ball handling. To me last night he looked like a true point guard. 5 assists, tons of should have been assists, and the only real turnover was a carry call (which they technically could call on almost every guard a few times a game). I somewhat wonder if 1. He hasnt been able to run/jump as much and has just been dribbling for a month 2. He has watched a lot of tape and games and has seen where he was getting in trouble or 3. He is a little slower and that loss of speed might mean greater control. Either way I was very pleased by the way he played for his first game back from a broken back.

Michael Arace commentary: It's a different game with Turner on the floor

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

The buzz started with Tweets yesterday afternoon.

Evan Turner was a gametime decision. No, he was in. Then he was out. Then he was back in again.

A photographer saw Turner take an early leave of the pregame warm-ups and heard him declare, "I'm out." Somebody Tweeted that. Probably 1,000 phones vibrated among the fans coming through the turnstiles at Value City Arena.

Indiana was visiting. Would the best player in the Big Ten -- arguably, the best player in the nation -- be back in the Buckeyes' lineup?

Not since Brent Darby in 2002-03 has a single player been as important to Ohio State basketball as Turner. But Darby wasn't an NBA lottery pick.

And so, since Dec. 5, when Turner went from a two-handed dunk attempt to flat on his back under the basket, the Buckeyes, their fans and a host of prospective agents have been playing a waiting game. Turner suffered two broken bones in his lower back. When would anyone know whether he was good to go?

It was said Turner would need eight weeks to be basketball ready. Quietly, Turner maintained he wouldn't be sitting no eight stinking weeks.

"It's not cool going to class and not playing," Turner said. "I'm looking forward to doing both."

Turner's presence felt
Guard returns from back injury to help Buckeyes dominate Hoosiers

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

They are roommates, but they pick on each other like brothers.

Evan Turner will look at Jon Diebler and say, "If I wasn't driving, you wouldn't get an open shot."

Diebler's retort: "If I wasn't on the court, you wouldn't get an open drive."

Each got his own last night, and for one day at least, there were smiles all around the Ohio State men's basketball team.

Coach Thad Matta, paraphrasing from the Blues Brothers movie, said, "It was good to put the band back together tonight."

With Turner, their point guard and best player, back in the starting lineup after missing six games because of a back injury, the Buckeyes overwhelmed Indiana 79-54 in Value City Arena for their first Big Ten victory of the season.

I have no idea what the following means. I mean were the bones in his back really broke because if they were I have never seen anyone with a broken back do what he did last night.

Beef House: Indiana

The Evan Turner rehabilitation saga was a misinformation campaign. Turner finally came clean last night.

Ohio State did it, as it often does for its high-profile athletes, to protect him from inquiring minds, he said. Not that he was made available for inquiry more than once in the month he was sidelined with two broken bones in his lower back. And not that we didn't inquire anyway and find out eventually that it was all a ruse.

"It only takes a bone four to six weeks to heal," Turner said. "They just said eight weeks so, you know, the media wouldn?t be wondering when I was coming back. No offense to you guys."

No offense, either, to you ticket-buying, merchandise-purchasing fans who would have liked to know the truth, too, I'm guessing.

Turner was back in 4 1/2 weeks last night, and though he was not the triple-trouble Turner of old, you could see the rust coming off that player during the 20 minutes he played against Indiana.
"I felt fine," he said afterward.

Waaaaah

Baptist gets his feelings hurt because they told a little, white lie. Get over it, they don't have to tell you anything at all. :shake:

There must be a personality test to get into journalism school.

If you're too big of a whiny baby for any other major, j-school has to take you. :tongue2:

Chill, Bob. We want to hear about the team, not your hurt little feewings.

I hate how journalists feel entitled to know all the medical details of college kids' injuries. That stuff is private, they should feel lucky to get that information as much as they do. It is a privilege, not a right.

My sympathy for Bob couldn't be any lower.

What the story means is there was a conspiracy to manipulate public opinion regarding ET's injury - I'm not too thrilled with that! But not all of us bought the company line of 8 weeks - I certainly felt ET shouldn't be out nearly as long as he was projected to be out. Just goes to show you being a contrarian pays off occasionally :) I'm glad ET's back!

Haven't you ever heard of under promising and over delivering? That's exactly what they did. They gave the worst scenario estimate and delivered the best. Get over it. :)

I guess I would appreciate a little honesty from the Ohio State University athletic department even though they don't owe anyone squat. I mean the fact that he was back practicing for days before the Indiana game I think was an indication that they knew he was not as hurt badly as they portrayed in their initial announcement. I guess I just don't understand why they think they have to fool the public. Big difference between 8 weeks and 4 weeks. Oh well, as DZ8 stated "welcome back, ET".

I don't think Ohio State is allowed to disclose the extent/exact nature of any student's injury, etc. See the sites (below) on the Federal Privacy laws (HIPAA and FERPA) that forbids the release of any medical/health information by the school on any of it's students:

I had thought about the above when I made my post but why put out false information. They should have just stated that they could not give out any information regarding the extent of the injury. It makes you wonder what you can believe the next time they put something out regarding almost anything.

I don't think a lot of us believed the eight week thing this time around. *shrug*

Edit: On the football side, they've been playing coy with injury information for at least a decade. Remember Clarett's "stinger"?

I'm not sure if ET is back to 100% healthy, but he was close enough tonight!

Awesome performance during the last several minutes of the game to lead the team to a huge win at Mackey Arena tonight.
