Northworstern wanted to be a prime time matchup and the only way to do that was get Ohio State at their place and switch it to a Friday.

If there is a home game that night at my local High School, I'll be at the local High School. It won't change anything.

Northwestern not happy Ohio State game moved to Friday night

One of the more humorous yet eye roll worthy phenomena in college football these days is when college football ADs and coaches who are all too happy to cash TV checks complain about when TV asks them to play.

The latest installment is Northwestern, who is not happy that the Big Ten pushed its home game with Ohio State from Saturday, Oct. 19 to Friday, Oct. 18.

The rematch of this season’s Big Ten Championship, it’s obviously Northwestern’s biggest home game of the year. The Buckeyes last came to Ryan Field in 2013 and the last time they’ll be back until 2022. So, it’s easy to see why the Wildcats are upset — and upset they are.

“This one was out of our control,” Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald told the Chicago Tribune. “Didn’t get a vote on this. I understand why we’re doing this, but it does not make me happy. I still fundamentally believe that Fridays are for high school football.”

Northwestern previously held a successful stomp-and-scream campaign to get out of two Friday night games in 2017 — at Maryland, home against Michigan State — but had no such luck for 2019.

“Unlike some of our Big Ten brothers, we’re in a big-time city,” Fitzgerald said. “I know our administration will work hand in hand with the city so we can make it as amicable to our neighbors as we can.”

Like the rest of its Big Ten brothers, Northwestern took in $52 million in Fiscal Year 2018 and will likely rake in more in 2019.

All those millions — 52 of them, to be exact — come with a price. And that price for Northwestern is one Friday night home game.

Apparently the Friday night game is a B1G decision (i.e. money talks) not a Northwestern proposal/idea.

Since we went to the current East/West Divisions format for the 2014 season, we've played the following West Divisions team during the regular season (2014 and 2015 seasons had only 8 conference games, so only two out-of-division opponents):

Illinois: 2014 (home), 2015 (away), 2017 (home)
Iowa: 2017 (away)
Minnesota: 2014 (away), 2015 (home), 2018 (home)
Nebraska: 2016 (home), 2017 (away), 2018 (home)
Northwestern: 2016 (home)
Purdue: 2018 (away)
Wisconsin: 2016 (away)

In 2019 we play at Nebraska, at Northwestern, and at home against Wisconsin. This means that after six season in the East/West format we'll have played these amount of games against West Division teams:

Illinois: 3
Iowa: 1
Minnesota: 3
Nebraska: 4
Northwestern: 2
Purdue: 1
Wisconsin: 2

With a total of 16 out-of-division games in those six seasons, you would think that you would play each team at least twice with only two teams being played a third time. Take two of the games against Nebraska and split them between Iowa and Purdue and that's exactly what you get.

I miss Ohio State not having one of the "premiere" nonconference games. FAU, Cincinnati, and Miami......couldn't the Buckeyes have just scheduled a "Power 5" conference team, which would have been a better matchup than 9 of the 10 games (i.e. excluding ND vs scUM which is a "marque" matchup) listed above?
