Is Dane Cook funny?

I actually agree completely--just look at that old joke "The Aristocrats" or that old line "Good artists borrow/copy/imitate, great artists steal"--but was providing another example of a legitimate comic who takes issue with Dane's originality.

Right, gotcha. I mean, if another comic wants to say that shit, ok, fine. What pisses me off is people like Numby, who admit to not really liking stand up in the first place, using the "joke stealer" bullshit as a reason for not liking him. If you don't find him funny, that's fine. To each his own. But to say "I've never really listened to him, but I don't like him because so and so said he stole a joke of theirs" is absurd, imo.

He came over to Iraq last summer while I was there with the USO and dropped one of the funniest lines I've ever heard...talking about the recent nude pictures of Britney Spears that had been floating around (in particular her vag): "It looked like a stroke victim's mouth" :slappy:

Honestly, I can only think of a few comics off the top that I really can't stand. Strictly stand up, I don't care at all for Harlan Williams (though he was brilliant in Half Baked), Carlos Mencia, or Jim Brewer. So maybe I'm just not that hard to impress...

that being said, Dane has some of my favorite bits ever. His newest stand up has a couple jokes that had me in stitches. Like chicks that keep other chicks from getting laid..."Twat Swatters" :slappy:

Jesus Christ dude, are you trying to piss me off? Below I bolded why I don't like Dane Cook, which I've already said. I addressed the stealing jokes comment too. Bottom line is that I don't think the guy is funny. That's why I don't like him.

The only thing that's lame about Dane stealing jokes is.. that he's stealing jokes.

I don't listen to Dane Cook. I'd rather laugh at something that's funny, rather than loud.

If this were a claim being made by a few people, I wouldn't assume he's doing it.. but a whole bunch of people accuse him of doing this. Where there's smoke...

I'm talking about fans, too. Loads of people have said he stole jokes.. I don't listen to him, or much comedy at all, so I can't just pull five jokes out of my ass that he's stolen. As far as I'm concerned, if he's stolen one, he's a piece of shit.

I generally find it un-funny when people try really hard to be funny. Considering that's what comics do for a living, it's not really my thing. I'm not hating on Dane Cook just because he's Dane Cook. I'm hating on him because he yells a lot and makes an ass of himself to be funny, and I don't find his particular brand of loud/ass comedy to be funny. Has nothing to do with me thinking I'm too cool to like him. I don't give a shit what people think of what I like. One of my favorite movies is a fucking animated kids' movie. I like what I like.. if you think I'm too cool to like Dane Cook, you're too cool to like Jeff Dunham.

(I don't like Jeff Dunham, either, btw. )

EDIT: My favorite comedians are Mitch Hedberg, George Carlin and Bill Hicks.

You also said that you don't like stand up comedy too much and that you didn't really listen to Dane Cook.

No Numby, the last thing I want to do is piss you off. Please don't unleash your fury on me.

Lighten the fuck up. Your speech is over. Go to the carwash, toss 75 cents in the vaacum and de-sand that vagina.

Don't make shit up. That's all I ask.

I didn't. You said you don't think stand up comics are funny for the most part. You don't listen to Dane Cook. You also mentioned three fucking times that he "steals jokes" according to fans and two other comics, despite not being able to name even one joke he has stolen. You then say that you don't listen or haven't really listened to him. How much exactly did you listen to before forming an opinion? Or is it like with movies? You talked about wanting to see the new Terminator movie, then say "it's getting positive reviews, I want to see it" (I'm paraphrasing, so as not to be accused of "making shit up"), then as negative reviews come in, you aren't so sure if you want to see it. Just tell me, how much of Mr. Cooks stand up routine does someone that doesn't even fucking like stand up comedy because "they try too hard to be funny" (mmmk) need to watch to form an opinion worth sharing? I seriously would like to know.

It's like me saying "I don't like Hockey because I think it's a fucking stupid sport, and I hate the CBJ because they cheat". Then you asking me how much hockey I watch, and name five times they've cheated, and me responding with "I just don't like hockey, and other teams say they cheat!".

If you've listened to even half of one of his albums...that's all you need to say. "I've listened to half an album of his, and I didn't care for it...which isn't surprising because I don't really like stand up comedy in the first place".

If you are forming your opinion of him based on his movies, that's fine too. Just say that he is a shitty actor. I wouldn't disagree with you there so much. But at least I'd know what you're basing your dislike on. That's all I'm trying to get at here. If you only watched/listened to Vicious Circle, I'd also understand why you don't like him. In my opinion, that's his worst routine by far. Even though I liked it a bit, I could understand if someone else didn't. Is it your friends telling you they think he's an unfunny douche? I could understand if you trust your friends opinions, maybe because you have the same tastes in comedy.

Can you not see why I'm confused a bit here? Seriously.
