I agree that both these teams looked terrible. Both teams had first and goal inside the 5 and failed to score points. FSU has major QB/WR issues. They're lucky to have Booker and Washington or else they'd have zero offense. Miami looked slightly better. Wright can play, but not from his back. Lots to be fixed in the Sunshine state.

FSU went from 13 to 11 on my ballot, only because Oklahoma and Miami had to drop below them. I put Miami at #22; they lost but it was on the road to a ranked team.

I believe in a lot of movement in the early weeks, in order to shift the rankings from expectations to actual performance.

I vaulted GaTech from 25th to 13th for beating Auburn on the road 23-14. And I moved BC up from 19 to 15, passing Louisville, Boise St, and the same 2 teams FSU went ahead of.

TCU comes in at #14 for me, and ND at #19. I don't think TCU will stay there, but they deserve it right now for winning in Norman. ND got a solid road win over a team that has a pulse. I dropped Oklahoma and Auburn completely out of the poll because they lost at home to teams that weren't ranked (I had GaTech ranked, but the poll didn't).

Three quick comments:

1. For those of you that thought both FSU & Miami were way over rated in the polls - I totally agree. Realistically I think both teams should drop in the new polls, however FSU probably won't simply because they won and two teams above them (Oklahoma & Miami (who they beat)) lost.

2. Most understated comment was Bobby Bowden's in his post game interview: "We need better play from our quarterbacks".

3. How would you like to go through life with the name Decody Fagg?

I liked Miami's 3rd quarter drive where they went 3-and-out, punted, got the stop, went 3-and-out, punted, and got the stop again. They gained like 40 yards on those exchanges.

My, how the mighty have fallen. I honestly can't see either of these teams winning 9 games this year. Va Tech and NC State would have both taken these teams behind the woodshed.

Was anyone else tired as shit of hearing about Texas' RB being an ex-Marine and that he might get called back to service? No fuckin' shit, son, that's part of signing up...it's called inactive reserves. And then the hype about Vince Young. Sheesh, they didn't even mention any Buckeye players. Even more than ever, I hope we fuck Texas up...

Yeah, that segment left me scratching my head. They kind of threw it in out of the middle of nowhere. I understand his concern, and everything like that.....but what did it have to do with the Miami- FSU game? If it was used to hype next weeks game, it was weak. For what it's worth, I don't think that next week needs any hype, the story writes itself.

No. 14 Florida St. Beats No. 9 Miami 10-7

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State finally caught a break against Miami. After six straight years of frustrating finishes, the Seminoles found some good fortune against their rivals when the Hurricanes botched a short, potential game-tying field goal in the closing minutes of Florida State's 10-7 victory Monday night.

Jon Peattie lined up for a 28-yarder after a 19-play, 81-yard drive by Miami stalled with about 2:30 left.

But holder Brian Monroe dropped a low snap that bounced off his hands and rolled back into the pile, never giving Peattie a chance to try the kick.

"We finally stole one from them like they've been stealing them from us,"

Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said. "It's about time."

With No. 9 Miami out of timeouts, No. 14 Florida State simply needed to run out the clock to secure its first victory over the Hurricanes since 1999.

"It made up for a lot of them but not all of them," said Bowden, who improved to 12-19 against Miami with FSU.
In a series that has seen countless missed field goals by Florida State decide games, Miami missed two and couldn't even get off the biggest one of the game.

"That sounds like Florida State doesn't it," Bowden said of Miami's kicking woes. "That sounds like us."

Florida State overcame its own inept offense (170 total yards) with a defense that registered nine sacks and some solid special teams plays.

Both Florida State's Drew Weatherford and Miami's Kyle Wright were making their first collegiate start at quarterback and, at times, neither looked ready to lead a team to victory in one of college football's fiercest rivalries.

Weatherford was awful, going 7-for-24 for 67 yards with an interception. He was pulled early in the fourth, but fellow redshirt freshman Xavier Lee had no luck moving the 'Noles, either.

Wright wasn't much better until the final Miami drive, when he completed six passes and converted three third downs to put the Hurricanes in position to break the Noles' hearts again.

Wright finished 16-for-28 for 232 yards and a touchdown pass.
So, it came down to the defenses and special teams, and even when those units set up their offenses with prime field position, it was no sure thing they'd capitalize. The Seminoles wasted a first-and-goal from the 1 in the third quarter.

Most of the talk leading up to the 50th meeting of Miami and Florida State was about the two first-time starters at quarterback. And when it took almost nine minutes for either team to complete a pass, it became apparent the offenses were in for a long night against two fast and furious defenses.
Wright worked through his problems, including two early interceptions and a few dropped passes, long enough to guide an 81-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter. The sophomore's first career TD pass was a 34-yarder, zipped over a defender to Ryan Moore to make it 10-7 Florida State.
The Seminoles held a three-point advantage at half time, but the signs weren't good for Florida State.

Weatherford had completed just three passes for 14 yards while Wright seemed to be capable of making plays when he got help from his line and receivers.
It looked even more ominous for Florida State when Lawrence Timmons blocked a Miami punt that left the Seminoles with first-and-goal at the 1. After three runs lost 3 yards and a false start pushed FSU back another 5, first-year starter Gary Cismesia hooked a 23-yard field goal left.

The Seminoles grabbed a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, with help from the first interception thrown by Wright.

The pick set up Florida State at the Miami 29 and moments later James Coleman bulled in from the 1 for a 7-0 lead and the Seminoles' first first-quarter TD against the 'Canes since FSU's last win six years ago.
Cismesia made the first field-goal attempt of his career from 37 yards out a few minutes later, much to the delight of the Seminoles fans, who have been crushed by bad kicks against Miami more times than they prefer to remember.

Meanwhile, Peattie, a veteran who made 15 of 24 field goal attempts last season, missed badly from 47 and 39 in the quarter.
It turned out to be a good omen for Florida Stat

what did it have to do with the Miami- FSU game?
Absolutely nothing. Speculating about Texas/OSU the following week was certainly a lot more interesting than the game they showed last night.

I like defensive struggles as much as anyone but could somebody please learn to convert on 3rd down?! You know the game you're watching is going badly when they're showing the stats for the QBs who will appear the following week.

it seems hard to say, considering the fact that they had twice as many yards, but Miami's offensive gameplan was garbage, and the coaching staff showed no ability to adujst... where the hell was the short passing game? seriously, when the kid has already been sacked SEVEN FUCKING TIMES, why in the name of all that is good would you still have him under center, taking five step drops???

they should have put him in the gun, and have him throw short stuff until the defense backed off... and you know what the funniest part is? a NINE year old kid came up to me and asked, "why don't they put him in the shotgun so he doesn't get tackled every time?" seriously, if a 9 year old can see it, why can't the coaches?

ah well, i lost money, but no biggie...

PSU, Michigan, and OSU laugh at 85k people.

Yeah, it's nice having 6 inches of seating space just to say you've got 100,000 people there. WHen you guys come down to Miami, you'll see why the Orange Bowl has the best "big game atmosphere" in college football.

And as to the people who say we both look overrated, this game would've resembled last year's OSU/Michigan game had they played the first game of the season. Two green QB's against 2 pretty damn good defenses. The first game of every season is tough enough, even against Miami (OH), but to play it with 2 freshman QB's against two pretty good defenses is just asking too much for both teams to play very well. Overrated? We may be, but I'd love to see OSU/Michigan play their first game of the year against each other and not look like crap.

Overall, this was a great game. I'm pumped about Kyle Wright. I think most 'Cane fans aren't that mad about the loss because Kyle Wright showed so much poise last night driving 90 some yards. Even though he didn't close the book, he sure showed a lot of people what kind of QB he can be. I still think our next loss will be @ VT but then again, with our interior OL play, Duke may play us tough.

I agree with you that Klye Wright looked pretty good after the 1st quarter. Your o-line sucks just flat out. Moss had nice runs but he had to bounce everything outside and made things happen with no blockers. Eric Winston is verrrrrry overrated, he was getting beat off the edge the whole game. I think Coker needs to find a new holder. Miami losses at least 3 games.

if youve never been to the shoe, dont talk shit about the shoe

I'll give you that. It surely is much more comfortable in the Orange bowl than the 'Shoe. It's much more comfortable when there are only 50,000 packed in an 80000 seat stadium.
