Fred Davis (official thread)

What is it with USC alumni and killing boyfriends of ex-wives? First, OJ, now Keyshaun has a restraining order placed on him for threatening the life of an ex's boyfriend. What a nice environment to learn in. Keyshaun BTW also has that "it's about me" attitude. It wasn't enough to win a Super Bowl ring and cry because Gruden told the QB not to throw the ball to me. It also had to carry over to 2003 where Keyshaun gets thrown off the team. My Fred, looks like you will be in good hands at USC. Makes me appreciate people like Tony Gonzalez that much more.

Count me wrong on Miles, but not because he didn't want to be a Buckeye. I hope that we don't see Miles and Hoyer hookup to haunt us some day.

On the bright side though, I believe that OSU is making a real stance when it comes to the combination of academics and athletics. That is how it should be. Hopefully the days of 0.0 grade point averages are gone and future recruits will know that they have to have the grades to come..

Now there is room for both Davis and Jarrett...

:oh: :io:

Davis to USC

Most of you reading this will allready know that Davis skipped town and commited to USC by now. Is it just me or was that a cheap manuver? I think he knew all along what his decision was and didn't have the balls to come out with it. I'm not try to bash the kid, but honestly. Doesn't it seem that way?

Meh, best of luck to the kid. I don't necessarily agree with his decision and how he *appears* to have handled it, but that has no meaning or bearing on anything. Besides, he's going to a great program (no matter how much I dislike them), and a very WR-friendly offense, and is joining what is now BY FAR the top recruiting class in the nation. Actually, I take it back, I agree with his decision when I take 'Ohio' being his home state out of the equation.

Frankly, I'm just glad it's done and over with. And after the board (the one in particular we all know I'm talking about) has its meltdown, maybe it can return to a more normal level of venemous insanity. Oh wait no, that can't happen when the site's own staff has one expert who takes shot at their other expert. :roll1: Not a shot at the site, just at what has happened to it.

There's only one thing related to recruiting that will excite me between now and signing day, and that's signing day... We've already put together a terrific recruiting class, and on top of that we still have some terrific looking players on the hook. Not bad.

Congrats to Fred!

I would love to have the number one recruiting class every year, but that guarantees you nothing. Give me the Hawks, Claretts and Ginns of the world who commit early because they know from day one where they want to go.

Hey, after this implosion over on the other board how long will it be before they start panicking over a top recruit for next year?

Clarity, you're dreamin'!!! There was a time I might agree with you but one stop over there this morning and I'm convinced we will have trouble winning a game next year. Look out Indiana. Watch yourself Northwestern, your homes at the cellar of the Big Ten are not safe...here we come!!!

I have to be honest here fellas. I am glad in many ways that Davis has ended this thing and went to USC. He definately is a "me first" kind of guy who will find sledding a little tough next season when all the promises that Carroll make him do not come true. He is also in the mold of a Mike Dandrea type of recruit.........highly touted but unproven, most of hype is potential.

Best of luck to Fred, but I think that he will find things different once the season starts next fall.

This was one of the weirdest recruiting adventures I have ever seen. Thank God it is over. I know he is supposed to be a top talent but something tells me that there is something not right.
The biggest thing I do not understand is why he is so heavily recruited in the first place? His numbers are not that great and his team was 3-7 in the Toledo City league. As far as I know the Toledo city league is not one of Ohio's premier leagues.
If a top 10 national recruit is on a 3-7 team something has to be wrong somewhere. That, coupled with the recruiting fiasco, has led me to believe that Davis could be trouble for the next team that he plays for.

Best of luck to Fred at USC. My question is what will happen to USC and the players there when Norm Chow is gone. I give him one more year there.

I am probably more interested at this point in what is behind all the finger pointing going on in the Miles Williams fiasco. Will there be any impact now or in the future on OSU recruiting. I hope that gets all cleared up once NLOID is done.

On another note, non football related, I just want to congratulate Phil Mickelson for getting back into the winners circle. What a long strange strip it has been.....

Good thoughts, Clarity, although I disagree to some extent. I can't question Fred on his ultimate decision to attend USC, but the procedure by which he reached his decision leaves something to be desired. I am not going too far out on a limb when I say that Fred Davis has handled the recruiting process worse than any recruit that I can remember (although Devin Aromashodu, who made four separate commitments to three different schools during the final days of the 2002 recruiting season, is still in the running). Thank god that this fiasco is now over.

Daddyphatsacs - the D'Andrea reference is very appropriate. After all of the hype and turmoil, I really doubt that Fred Davis could have lived up to our expectations. If Fred would have come to OSU, the fans would have cut him very little slack after the circus he put us all through; despite his obvious talent and potential, I doubt that he would have entered Ohio State as a fan favorite. He is probably better off at USC, and we are probably better off without him.

Very rarely do I ever harbor bad feelings about this type of thing but I just can't see wishing Davis luck as he heads out to USC. If fact I hope he falls flat on his face. He has come across as a completely me first type of athlete. That is disturbing. I thought he wanted to come here and pay tribute to a great friend and fallen comrade from Toledo, Drushawn. He was all set to that and then he let all the recruiting and ass kissing go to his head. He became smitten with the line of Bullshit that Pete Carroll was putting on his plate.

It is not like I don't respect a young mans choice while choosing a school, I just think he made this out to be a big drama for his own pleasure and hung a lot of people that supported him out to dry. He really did a disservice to Coach Rios. He did nothing but make him look bad by how he played things out. Oh well, I would not even have made this post except for the fact that he split town before even making a decision, like a coward. He played the game and wanted everyone to respect his "tough decision" but was not man enough to tell people what it was. I think Carroll had just as much to do with that as anyone.

Good ridence being done with the hype and I hope he have at best a mediocre career out there and realizes his mistake when Carroll and Chow bail on him.

Although Fred's actions leave much to be desired, it absolutely KILLS that we lost him regardless of the circumstances, even more so if we dont recover by picking up one of the 3 WRs still on the radar (Jarrett, Lyons, Dukes). We are very thin at the WR position overall. We have Holmes, Hall but then what? Someone is going to have to step up at the WR position in the near future...

Holmes, Hall, Hiley, Jordan, and Gonzalez with a TE who acts like a WR (if he can manage to catch the ball). Throw in Ginn who I think will see the field first as a WR. A number of the other DBs also played a receiver position - I don't believe the cupboard is bare.

I watched the Army game, and FD was a nonfactor. Lee was supposed to be his main man - I'll commit if he commits. Then the excuses flow. Ginn would have had 2 return TDs had he not fumbled on the last play of the 1st half. Ginn is the big gun of this class, not FD.
