Former Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley (Unemployed)

Oh hell, I suppose I might as well "go there" by suggesting this Tennessee native:

Of course, Tennessee does consider at least two other teams to be major rivals, so maybe it's not such a good idea.

There's another Tennessean to consider ...

He was OK versus his rivals and great against SEC teams, and since it's unlikely Tennessee would appear in a Rose Bowl he should be good.

This Dooley dude was the AD at La Tech after just one year. He coached at LSU and in the NFL with the Dolphins and Saban. Saban's the hot coach right now, his assistants/coaching tree being mentioned for a lot of jobs.

Native southerner - Check
Strong longevity - Check
History of success - Check
Strong recruiter (with nationwide success) - Check

Instead of waiting for Old Man Beamer to hang it up, Foster could leave immediately?

You can't spell CITRUS without U-T.

At this point I bet Spurrier would be happy to make a Citrus Bowl.

yep.

He's a Tennessee boy even if he didn't go there for college and he's from that area of Tennessee anyway.

I could see him going there as a sunset to his career. Certainly I think the ceiling is higher at Tennessee than it is as South Carolina....

He's spending a lot of time focusing on his time with Saban, and letting everyone know that his time at La Tech was a good stepping stone and was something that needed building.

I like the guy.... heck, I'm sure the rest of the country said, Jim Tressel from Youngstown State?????

Dooley understands the South, and was Saban's lead recruiter. Having the UT brand behind him, he could be successful.
