Former QB Coach Nick Siciliano (official thread)

Doesn't the very nature of this conversation and questioning cause concern? I guess I wouldn't be so worried if we just went out and had a bad performance, but when it seems like there is nobody to hold accountable or that will take responsibility and correct it I'm very alarmed.

I'm not that alarmed. I tempered my expectations for this season before it began and I've reduced them even more after 5 games. Best case scenario, things click when the suspended players return and we make a run at the B1G title. Worst case scenario, we have a losing season and we clean house. It's not as if we can't attract a good coach, barring extreme punishment from the NCAA.

That's what scares the crap out of me right now. :(

Given what I saw from our O-line, I don't think Drew Brees would have looked good under center. So not sure how much blame to lay at coach Sic's feet. But I have to admit, I think most of the QB coaching over the past few years was probably done by the head coach.

Justin Zwick:

So that's what u get when your QB coach last played as a backup QB for Austintown Fitch---great guidance

Nick seemed to do OK with Troy in 05-06 when Joe Daniels figuratively and then literally was kicked upstairs to protect his health.

Was it JZ that couldn't find his helmet in a blowout, or someone else. I seem to remember it being vs. Northwestern.

My reply would be considered bashing of Zwick, so I won't post it...

Understood. Completely.

And not that I don't agree with what you're getting at, but I just don't see why fans (I'm not directing this at you, Mili. This post just happened to bring forth my point.) can bitch and moan about a QB situation, but former players who fought to be on the team can't do so.

I am sure Grad and other coaches can speak to this, but scheming vs OSU offense right now is a DREAM! I am sending more then they have blocking at all times and making the QB make a read and beat me. The Oline is not nearly as bad as fans are making them out to be.

I have never played QB, have never coached it, and the very few times I have looked at recruiting videos of top QB's I could not tell you why one was rated better then the other. Having said that, if former players are calling him out and I have seen very little progression with the QB play, I am not sure blame is not shared with SIC.

Someday I would be very interested in how SIC got this position in the first place. The comments about him never being a QB etc is meaningless. History has shown us you do not need to be an elite player or a player at all to be a good coach.

Bingo. And if we're playing the blame game with the coaches, Sic is pretty far back in line.

When the defense is blitzing, and you KNOW the defense is blitzing, and when you continue to call pass routes 20 yards down the field that take forever to develop, and on top of that you keep running fake draws which take ever LONGER to develop and prevent the RB from helping to pick up the blitz, can you really blame 5 offensive linemen for not picking up 7 pass rushers long enough for the 20 yard pass patterns to get open?

I can't blame the offensive line too much.

It still comes back to coaching and play calling for me.
