THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Nick Siciliano has taken on a heaping helping of extra responsibility, and he's loving it.

"I've had a lot of enjoyment being at Ohio State, but these last three months I wouldn't trade for anything," he said. "They've been some of the happiest days I've ever had."

First, Siciliano became a father Feb. 7 when his wife, Analisa, gave birth to quadruplets -- boys Cole and Giovanni and girls Gabrielle and Zoe.

About the same time, coach Jim Tressel told Siciliano, who's in his third year as quality control coach for Ohio State's offense, that his duties were about to increase substantially. He was needed to coach the quarterbacks during spring practice while Joe Daniels recovers from February surgery to remove a cancerous kidney.

"I feel good about it because coach Tressel trusts me with them," Siciliano said. "Even though it's the spring, it's still an important time."

Siciliano, 33, knows he is only a fill-in until Daniels returns, but he brings credentials to the job. Since graduating in 1999 from Youngtown State, where he worked for Tressel as a student assistant, Siciliano has wiggled up the coaching tree.

These are busy days to be Nick Siciliano.
When the year began, he was the offensive quality control manager for the Ohio State football team. He did things like grade practices, ensure the thoroughness of statistics and other grinding duties to help coach Jim Tressel and the offensive staff.
In February, his life changed.
First, he and his wife welcomed quadruplets, two boys and two girls. Then, not long after, Tressel asked him to assume quarterback coaching responsibilities after QB coach Joe Daniels underwent surgery involving one of his kidneys in February.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? For years, Ana and Nick Siciliano dreamed of having a family. But never in their wildest dreams did they think everyone would arrive at once. The children's births did not come easy, 10TV's Andrea Cambern reported.
There were years of trying to get pregnant.
"You see so many negatives," Ana Siciliano said. "To see positive, we were just so excited."

Guys, is this the guy that is going to be stepping in for coach Daniels? Hearing his name more integrated into recruiting and was wondering if he was the new QB guy.

I don't have any concrete info but I do believe this is correct. Especially since I read that he went with Tress and Bollman to visit Tajh.

There's some chatter going around that it Siciliano could be taking over for Coach Daniels soon, as possibly the interview process has already began. There is a posting for a job opeing for an Assitant Football Coach, along with an addendum: ?A university staff member is being considered for the position, but you may still apply.?

With that being said all signs would point to Nick.I think he's a great choice, with a solid resume. TP has supposedly responded well to him, as he is "energetic" and focuses on "the mechanics".

Wait and see on coaching opening
Speculation has been swirling for a few days, ever since Ohio State posted a number of football-related job openings on its web site.

One of them is for a full-time assistant coach, which of course kick-started a number of scenarios that are now being floated in the cyber world.

After making some calls, I can tell you that nothing is set in stone, and there may not even be a change in the coaching staff at all. It's all still up in the air.

Director of football operations Bob Tucker is retiring June 30, and apparently, coach Jim Tressel is considering making some structural changes on his staff. Some of that may involve an assistant stepping down, but it might not, either.

Those decisions have not been made, and won't be until the end of the month.

So out of respect for the lives and careers of those people involved, that's as far as I feel comfortable going with this for now. When more information is available, we'll have it.

On the job posting for a full-time assistant coach on the OSU web site, Tressel said the only thing he knows for sure is that director of football operations Bob Tucker is retiring June 30.

"There will be some re-organization," he said. "And sometimes, when you have movement with a guy like Bob Tucker, who has done so much, it gives you an opportunity to give guys different responsibilities."

Indications are that football operations assistant Nick Siciliano will be named the quarterbacks coach and current quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels will remain on staff, but not in a coaching role. Siciliano has been working with the QBs for the past three years, so this isn't a huge shift. It gives Siciliano a big raise, though.

Daniels has been battling kidney cancer since the summer of 2006. Tressel said Daniels' health has never been better since then.

Changes to the Ohio State football coaching staff are expected to be announced any day.

Keith Uecker, a 10-year NFL veteran who had been coaching the offensive line at Wayne State, has been added to the OSU staff, apparently as offensive quality control coach.

Other than Bob Tucker's retirement as director of football operations, the changes aren't set in stone. But it appears Nick Siciliano, who held Uecker's off-the-field position while coaching quarterbacks last season, is expected to officially replace Joe Daniels, who has had health problems. Daniels is expected to remain on staff and might take over Tucker's role.

Presumably, the moves will satisfy the NCAA limit of nine on-the-field assistant coaches, which it temporarily waived.

"The NCAA has been good about Joe's illness," coach Jim Tressel said. "We have to make sure we do what's right and we don't have an unfair advantage."
