Former LB Coach Al Washington (Official Thread)

The offer is for three years and an annual average value of $1.2-1.5 million, according to a published report Monday evening by FootballScoop.

On this board when a player forgoes his senior year for the NFL draft, many people on this board post something like "get paid now". So why shouldn't an young aspiring position coach that wants to move up the chain to coordinator and then head coach take the offer? This is a career changing offer for him and life changing offer financially for his family. This is well over double what his contract is for at Ohio State.

Cause in this case we can actually pay them? Like near what they are offering or above. Also Tennessee has made dumpster fires look good of late. And Day isn't against promotion or he wouldn't have recommended Hafley take the BC job

I dont think anyone is upset at him trying to move up. I think people are questioning the intelligence of his destination considering the dumpster fire that the program has been. Players get drafted and dont get to pick a team. Coaches are free agents. It is also extremely likely that if he stuck around next year he could get a CO-DC title here.. and from there the sky is the limit.. headcoaching spots, the NFL, GOOD college jobs.. just seems he bailed a year or two early.

There’s a little bit of context here that should be applied. We absolutely tell guys they should go get paid if they can, but we also tell guys if they want long-term success it’s best that the return to school to put themselves in better position for future success.

Pretty sure we won the bidding war. Wondering where (or if) we put Steele? Washington could probably use an old SEC hand for a year or two but..... can we trust Steele not to want him to fail?

Changed his mind...he is staying
