Former LB Coach Al Washington (Official Thread)

The SEC has endless money for football.

but we can’t try and skimp if we are trying to compete with them.

Is this your definition of pinching pennies? 247

The Scarlet and Gray coaching staff will make just under $8 million combined during the 2020 season after making just over $7.2 million in total salaries last year. According to the USA Today database that compiles assistant coaches' salaries, Ohio State ranked third in the country in assistants' compensation last season.

This is why that whole "comfort and relationships" theory of recruiting is so laughable....

If you're a successful program like Ohio State, you're going to lose coaches like Jeff Hafley and Al Washington to promotions.

If you're a struggling program like Michigan, you're going lose coaches like Don Brown and Ed Warriner to firings.

A recruit who commits to a school because he likes his position coach is, shall we say, short-sighted. Assistant coaches come and go, they are always on the move.

Ohio State will replace Al Washington with someone highly-qualified, and I doubt very much that the Buckeyes will lose any recruits over this.

Wish him the very best of luck, but taking a position in that program right now is an incredible risk. Guess he's betting on himself.
That he’ll get a HC gig before Heupel is fired? Needless to say, that seems like quite the risk.

Otherwise, it seems unlikely he’ll find himself in a better position than he is right now when Tennessee football resets again.

Report: Tennessee extends 'highly lucrative' offer to Ohio State's Al Washington

Tennessee reportedly continues to be in pursuit of Ohio State linebackers coach Al Washington as the Vols search for a new defensive coordinator. The offer is for three years and an annual average value of $1.2-1.5 million, according to a published report Monday evening by FootballScoop.

Ohio State is set to counter with an offer of more money for Washington, the report added. While the Buckeyes appeared to have an "inside track" at retaining Washington midway through Monday, the Vols "have not gone away quietly" in a push led by new head coach Josh Heupel.

I went over to the Tenn message boards to see what the hub bub is there. Second post I saw was this...presumably before HotMic's un-bump.
Some TN douche said:
Pretty sure we won the bidding war. Wondering where (or if) we put Steele? Washington could probably use an old SEC hand for a year or two but..... can we trust Steele not to want him to fail?
So they have a coach on staff who they're concerned would purposefully sabotage another coach?

Next post
Other TN doucher said:
Would Steele do that again? He did it at Auburn... It didn't work out for him. I'm sure he wanted "more" here at UT, but not happening either. Would he sabotage again? At his alma mater?
They KNOW they have a guy on staff who has already done this?

Yeah....I think we're being a little harsh to dumpster fires in this comparison.
