As someone else stated on a different board, there may not be an instant need to find a replacement DB coach. Between Grinch & Schiano, they can coach the DBs & Coach Meyer can hire for a different position group.

And in the state up north, he killed it in both areas. But really, really sad to see Coach Coombs go, one of my absolute favorite coaches we have had here. A little surprised to see him go to the NFL...if anything, I figured he may leave to be the HC at another college. We will at least feel this one in recruiting but maybe in the overall culture and intensity...guy meant so much to the culture of our defense. Luckily we have plenty of coaching talent in the secondary already. In any event, well deserved and congrats Coach, I hope you have great success at the next level.

I get why people don't like him, but he does have results to justify his job. He recruits well and has put players in the league. He took a lot of undeserved heat, imo, for HS athlete wr/rb projects not immediately producing as WR's in college. But his players improve. Sorry for the tangent

I'm definitely gonna miss Kerry. His coaching was obviously top notch but that energy can't be replaced.

Kerry Coombs — The Coach That Sparked the Fire

Normally when an assistant coach leaves a program, there is a sense of loss pretty much only on the football side of life. Most of the time, the coaches are quickly forgotten by the fan base as life moves on.

With Kerry Coombs leaving Ohio State, however, it’s different.

When Urban Meyer came to OSU, one of the requirements for each member of his coaching staff was to coach and recruit like “their hair was on fire,” and Kerry Coombs epitomized that aggressive prerequisite perfectly.

In a way, he was kind of a caricature of what you imagine a football coach to act like and we loved him for it. No matter how cold, he would always have on his signature white golf shirt. No matter how small the play, he would be the first to jump into the arms of his defender. A fixture of the Meyer Era, he became the gold standard on how to coach and recruit like “your hair was on fire.”

Honestly when I saw the news, I was more sad to be losing Coombs the person more than the football coach. I wish him nothing but the best in the NFL.

And as a treat, here is what Kerry Coombs was like when he was recruiting — a man on fire with a passion for The Ohio State University.

Best of luck to Coach Coombs in the NFL. I can't blame Vrabel for wanting a guy like Coombs on his staff; we don't want to lose him because he's a really good coach. That's why Vrabel wants him on his.

Also, anyone else think Tennessee might try to move up in the draft to get Denzel Ward?
