Coombs = football coach
Dad at OSU, son works for Bengals

The last time Kerry and Brayden Coombs saw each other was the first weekend of Bengals training camp. Father and son shared a long conversation after practice and then it was time to go back to work.
It has been quite a year for both men. This past spring, Kerry Coombs accepted a position on Urban Meyer?s staff at Ohio State as a cornerbacks coach after five seasons at UC. Brayden, who played for his dad at Colerain and later went to Miami University, was elevated to an offensive assistant on the Bengals staff after two years as a coaching assistant.
When it comes to how much both have accomplished the past six years and who they?ve worked with, the development has been interesting to watch.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has known the family since he was the defensive backs coach at UC in 1999-2000. All three came together at Ohio State?s Pro Day and had long discussions while evaluating prospects.
?That was pretty cool,? Tomlin said a couple of weeks ago when asked about it. ?The thing about it is the profession of coaching is about taking young men and making them realize their potential. It doesn?t matter what level you do it at. Kerry?s track record shows that. He?s a great coach and I have always had a great deal of respect for him. Brayden will be very successful if he is anything like his dad.?

Coombs Finding Life in the "Big City" to His Liking
By Tony Gerdeman
COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It was a simple, almost throwaway line, but it was one that also spoke volumes.
"I've never been in the state of Wisconsin," said OSU cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs when asked about this week's game in Madison.

"You've got to remember, I've lived a sheltered life that pretty much revolves around the state of Ohio, particularly Cincinnati. Never been there."
This is Coombs' 30th year as a football coach, but it's his first working outside of southwest Ohio. Now with the Buckeyes, he is getting to experience things that he has never experienced before.
However, one thing that he does have experience with is coaching on a college football team with 10 wins.
"I've been a college coach for six years, and five of those years we've won 10 games," he said, alluding to his five successful seasons with the University of Cincinnati before coming to Columbus.
