Canada might be the third or fourth best team in the Gold Cup. That being said, Martinique doesn’t belong on the same field.

I also wouldn’t be upset if Tajon Buchanan severely stubs his big toe on the way back to the team hotel.

Report: Messi, Barcelona agree to new 5-year deal with massive pay cut

Lionel Messi is going nowhere after reportedly agreeing a new five-year contract to remain at Barcelona while taking a 50 percent pay cut to assist the club with its ongoing financial crisis.

It was previously revealed that Messi’s last contract paid him $674 million over the four-year term ($168.5 million per year), thus the new deal is expected to pay him close to $85 million per year and just over $420 million should he remain at the club for the duration.

Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona: Argentina captain won't sign new contract

Barcelona have announced that Lionel Messi will leave the club after financial problems prevented them from agreeing with the forward on a new contract.

Messi, 34, has been a free agent since his previous terms expired on June 30, but ESPN revealed in July that a loose agreement over a five-year extension had been reached.

However, Barca have been unable to register Messi's new contract with LaLiga while complying with the league's financial fair play rules.

Spanish clubs must comply with a spending limit, which includes money spent on salaries and signings, determined by LaLiga.

Barca's spending stood at over €600 million before the coronavirus pandemic but was reduced to €347m last season and is expected to be slashed even further for the upcoming campaign.

Therefore, to register Messi's new contract with the league, the Catalan club needed to reduce their wage bill or bring in a significant amount of money in transfers.

Speculation has followed since, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain the two clubs that have been monitoring his situation most closely. They will now be the favourites to sign him on a free transfer.
