I think it was an old interview with Bo where he said that the Ohio State-UM game is everything. He said in the old days, the winner went to the Rose bowl and the loser went home. In my mind, enough said. UM had their shot and since there's another one loss team in Florida that is so close when you look at schedule and quality wins etc, you have to give the next shot to Florida. I just hope my opinion is shared by the voters. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

There are several ways to look at how to seperate these two teams.

1. Conference champ - Edge Florida
2. SOS - Edge Florida
3. Non-conference Schedule - Edge scUM
4. "Tough Victories" - Edge Florida
5. "Style Points" - Edge scUM
6. Rematch - Push (Depends on which side you fall on)
7. Eyeball Test (subjective belief that one team looks more like #2) - Edge appears to go to scUM
8. Hottest Cheerleaders - Edge Florida

This is what I really hate about the current system. The pollesters will all be making their decisions based on different criteria. Is the voting for who is perceived as #2 or who you want to see play in the NC? Those could be different votes. What a stupid way to decide this.
I agree
1. Conference champ - Edge Florida
2. SOS - Edge Florida
4. "Tough Victories" - Edge Florida
Go Bucks !

I can't believe this hasn't been said before, but how about a play-off system with the #1 team getting a bye?
That would only prolong the agony of knowing who we are playing.
Let the Voters and computers decide, just as they are supposed to .

The problem I see with this reasoning is the fact that everything is based upon the opinion of talking-media-heads (and we all remember how smart they are based on last year's hype before the USC-Texas game). As I and several other posters have mentioned, those opinions--even if informed and educated--really have no way of demonstrating Michigan is actually the second best team in the nation (maybe they are, maybe they are not).
OK, let us say that indeed the pollsters are basing their opinions of who is #2 on some sort of flawed internal value system. (Which an entirely reasonable proposition). Have they not been doing that for #1 through #25 all season?

The voters have the opportunity to correct the primary flaw of the BCS system (i.e. allowing non-conference champions to play in the national title game) and they should do so, especially when Florida with one loss has as much right to the #2 spot as Michigan with their one loss.
Ah yes, the primary flaw argument. It is galling not to see only the Conference Champions gain entry to the BCS Championship game. Or is it?

Let us say that we have a very slightly different season than our current one. One in which Florida loses to Auburn by oh, 20 points instead of 10. Is Florida still a worthy challenger (more so than Michigan) because of the margin of their loss? In fact is Michigan better value as a 3 point loser to #1 Ohio State than Florida losing by 10 to Auburn? Is Michigan better value with a better margin of victory of the one common opponent, Vanderbilt? It is worth asking such questions because these are typical of the kind of fuzzy math that go into some people's minds when trying to assess who is #1, who is #2 and 3 and so on. Or, put another way, if the top two teams from the Big 10 are judged to be markedly better than the top two or three teams from the SEC does it really matter that there is an SEC Champion.

Demand that only a Conference Champion gain entree to to the Championship game and you can set up a scenario under which a desirable re-match of opponents, from the same conference, is disallowed. Not claiming that this in play fully this year, but, would that not itself be a flaw in your hypothetically improved BCS system?

Just to muddy the waters. How would the bcs ,voters and computers handle a situation where say tOSU beats michigan and finishes undeafeted but loses Troy for 6 mos due to injury on the last offensive play. How, or why would tOSU be considered the best team yet?

That doesn't make sense to me. How is winning with your backup anything but confirmation that you're the best team?

I agree with everything you are saying. I also agree with Kirk; I can't understand calling his logic flawed, by your views if i'm understanding it correctly, we should be playing Boise State in the championship since we can't be sure they arn't better then Michigan or Florida since they have not played each other this season?

no, herbies fundamental flaw is that he states you need to examine the entire body of work, and scrutinize each game, then proceeds to go prima facia with the statement that ttun only lost by 3 to osu whereas uf lost by 10 to auburn. however, if he would have taken his own advice, he'd have seen that auburn got a bs fumble call and points off of a dropped snap by the punter, and that ttun got a bs PI call as well as a nonreviewed dropped pass to get a score that made the game closer than it actually was.

My bet is that the money wins.
The networks will push for a game featuring tOSU - Fla. Their reasoning will be the difference in the amount of money to be made. For the most part only big 10 fans will watch a tOSU- Meech game, while the audience for tOsu - Fla would add the sec crowd.
:oh:
