Florida Gators (official thread)

If on the field success is required to fuel or justify hatred, why do Buckeye fans hate TTUN so much?
They do lead the all-time head-to-head, and have more total victories, which we Buckeye fans are anxious to take away from them; even though they have those marks mainly because of pre-World War I dominance.

Compared to Alabama, Florida is a tribute to human progress. Why not hate on Alabama?

Because they exist. But beyond that, they have had a long history of success in the Big Ten.

Florida existing is a reason too.

Also, while their success overall hasn’t been much besides those aforementioned years, as someone born in the 90s, everything that happened pre 1990 doesn’t register as much as much with me as what has happened after.

Even the spurrier years were before my time but my older brother has some horror stories about what that SOB did to lsu in the 90s.

Frame of reference for my life, they’ve had enough good years for me to hate them with Urban alone.

Interesting and aligns with the point I made.

There’s more reason to hate a program than what they’ve done on the field.

That’s from a map from the 1840s. Found it at an antique map store in NYC like 25 years ago or so. I grew up in Henry county and when I was looking the map there was something off about it. We weren’t a border county. It took me about 30-seconds to realize that this was done during the war for the Toledo strip.

And while a lot of us are happy to poke fun at Toledo, you can see that the bay and connecting river (Maumee) would have been valuable real estate related to shipping.

So, even going back to the 1840’s Urban was right. “Never lose to those pricks… never.”

I'm always struck by the fact that Upper Sandusky is down stream from Sandusky and Lower Sandusky.

i also hate on them, but the fanbases of those 2 schools are not close to comparable.
Florida is at the extreme shallow end of the gene pool.

if you're in New Orleans and want to go from the East Bank to the West Bank, you have to travel due East.

And yet we still have the "Lost Peninsula", the very tip of the peninsula formed by the Ottawa and Maumee rivers. That tip is actually part of *ichigan, but can only be accessed from Ohio. (Toledo).
