2025 FL WR Vernell Brown III (Florida Commit))

https://247sports.com/article/overt...ers-from-fridays-action-recruiting-232642001/

Vernell Brown III, WR: No one was more electric Friday in catch-and-run situations than Brown as he zigged and zagged his way through traffic to move the chains. What also stood out about Brown is how he was able to go up and come down with a jump ball over a much larger defender. Brown's explosive tendencies were a big reason why he rose in last month's Top247 update and he continues to show that he's got more juice than others. Ohio State hosted the Orlando (Fla.) Jones playmaker for an official visit last week. Trips to Miami and FSU are on deck.

Per Tom Loy at 247:
2 team race between FSU and UF

"I have been holding off on flipping my pick to the Gators because I wanted to hear how things went in Tallahassee.

I'm told the Florida State visit was incredible and he's more torn than ever between the Seminoles and Gators.

This looks like a two-team race down the stretch.

I know predictions are going in for Florida, but I'm not ready to write off Florida State at this point. His commitment is coming in July. He'll now enter decision mode."

Can't blame a kid for staying home. We'll be fine at the position.
Yup. And I'm sure UF pulled out ALL the stops, and had their NIL go all out for him as well. And then there's the familial angle too...
Essentially his recruitment is how I envision McNutt's as well. Look around for months, have an OV with your legacy school where they lay everything on the table, their NIL provides you a massive deal to not take you for granted. And try and work the family angle

RECRUITING: FIVE-STAR WIDE RECEIVER VERNELL BROWN III LAUDS BRIAN HARTLINE, OHIO STATE AHEAD OF COMMITMENT DECISION

Ohio State has built the nation’s top-rated recruiting class for 2025 over the past several months, garnering pledges from a quartet of five-stars and 16 four-stars for a 247Sports Composite score of 309.94, just over three points ahead of Alabama (306.37) for the top spot.

Although the Buckeyes already own the No. 1 ranking, they could bolster an already loaded class by earning a commitment from Orlando, Fla., Jones five-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III (5-11, 170), who is announcing his commitment decision on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Brown, the nation’s 25th-best prospect, sixth-best wide receiver and No. 5 player from Florida will choose between four schools on Sunday, those being the Buckeyes along with Florida, Florida State and Miami. While Brown has kept his recruitment mostly within the Sunshine State, Ohio State still remains high on his list, mainly because of the coaching pedigree of wide receivers coach/co-offensive coordinator Brian Hartline.

Brown pointed to Hartline’s ability to mold young receivers into top tier NFL talent over their years at Ohio State as something that intrigues him the most about Ohio State, a special coaching trait that the five-star was able to witness in person when he paid a visit to Columbus for an official visit from June 1-2.

“Coach Brian Hartline and Ohio State produce receivers and develop guys at my position,” Brown told On3 earlier this month. “It is that simple with Ohio State.”

“As far as the (June 1-2) visit goes, I really loved everything about (Ohio State),” Brown told Eleven Warriors on June 3. “I can say that for both me and my family. OSU has done a great job showing me and my family why they are the program they are and show the way they do things. It’s a really good program and it really opened my eyes on this OV.”

Just sayin': Four out of the five Crystal Balls favor Florida, just one for Ohio State.

Sounds like tOSU did everything that one could to show Vernell what could be his road to success. Of course, these young men are savvy enough to say the right things to the reporters that are wearing tOSU polos. The Buckeyes record with WRs is incomparable, and with the proper effort, could be his path to the NFL. Undoubtedly the other players are touting their record of putting players in the NFL as well. If it comes down to a bidding war, tOSU will probably lose, given that (my best guess) a big chunk of money is tied into the OT's NIL package. However, perish the thought, that Sanders goes elsewhere, will free up those funds for another elite WR recruit. One big chess game methinks. Go Bucks!

OSU was always in an uphill battle with this one due to family. He's a legacy at UF, they were always going to be in this rave, along with the other FL schools. I'm glad Hartline kept OSU in it for as long as he could. But Brown wants to stay home, and in the end OSU had to fight that impulse

No worries. I'm not the first person to point this out but now that teams basically have a salary cap you're probably not going to see the days when you had like 7 5 stars at a position.
Yes, that and also, every analyst has said(and it makes sense) that we will see Hartline alternate years of massive talent. Because like you said, with the salary cap( or also donors not wanting to pony up big money EVERY YEAR) it’s not sustainable, especially with the Portal. And every top recruit in ‘25 wanted to get paid like JJ smith, but they’re no where close to as good as Smith.
